Job Title: Field InspectorJob Description
The Field Inspector role demands a minimum of five years of experience in construction, remodeling, retrofitting, or infrastructure projects such as rail, mass transit, track maintenance, electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural work. The position requires the ability to read and understand contract specifications and drawings, ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and regulations.
Responsibilities
+ Ensure contractors comply with building codes, regulations, contract specifications, and drawings through regular inspections.
+ Manage multiple projects simultaneously while mentoring and training lower-level field inspection staff.
+ Monitor on-site construction activities, verifying the quality of materials, workmanship, and installation as per approved construction documents.
+ Prepare, submit, and maintain daily records of work activities, quantities used, and conditions at the job site.
+ Conduct inspections and site observations to document the quality of work being installed.
+ Report documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
+ Redline contract documents as minor changes are made in the field.
+ Assist with the development and implementation of project quality control plans, recommending and implementing corrective/preventive actions.
+ Work closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to understand technical data and submittals.
+ Provide quantity verifications for progress payments.
+ Report any safety or project schedule deviations to the Project Safety Engineer and Resident Engineer.
+ Mentor and train lower-level inspection staff.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in QA/QC observations on job sites.
+ Documentation and reporting skills.
+ Proficiency in understanding building codes and regulations.
+ Understanding of structural steel inspection.
+ Experience in welds and bolts inspections.
+ Certification as a CWI or ICC in structural steel.
+ Flexibility with projects and schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficiency in reviewing and implementing contract specifications and drawings.
+ OSHA 30 and Authority's Safety Compliance certifications preferred.
+ Associate’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or similar field.
Work Environment
The role involves working on-site with MARTA, with site visits located in downtown Atlanta. The work schedule is typically from 8 am to 5 pm. The position requires flexibility to switch projects as needed, including overseeing bus inspections with the planning department. Candidates must be willing to work on any project and adapt to any schedule.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
