Senior Mechanical Engineer – Owner’s Engineer Role

    Long-Term Contract with System One

Per Diem: $150/day (7 days/week) or expense arrangement available

System One is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer for a long-term contract role onsite in Waynesboro, GA. This opportunity is ideal for a senior-level engineer with a strong commercial nuclear background, who is ready to take on a strategic Owner’s Engineering position supporting Extended Power Uprate (EPU) efforts at one of the nation’s leading nuclear sites.

Rather than performing detailed design work, the successful candidate will provide technical oversight of engineering vendors and contractors, ensuring the quality and compliance of deliverables on behalf of the plant owner. You’ll be involved in high-level reviews, owner acceptance of engineering work products, and support of critical plant modifications tied to fleet-wide performance enhancements.

    Key Responsibilities:

+ Serve as an Owner’s Engineer overseeing mechanical engineering work on EPU projects and other major plant upgrades.

+ Manage and review vendor and contractor deliverables, including mechanical designs, calculations, and system modifications.

+ Perform Owner’s Acceptance Reviews to ensure third-party work meets plant requirements, regulatory standards, and operational objectives.

+ Provide engineering oversight on plant mechanical systems including piping, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, HVAC, and other balance-of-plant equipment.

+ Collaborate with project management, station engineering, procurement, and construction to ensure successful execution of projects.

+ Coordinate engineering responses, resolve technical issues, and assess vendor submittals across all project phases—from scope development to implementation.

+ Interface with internal stakeholders to ensure vendor alignment with plant configuration control, QA, and licensing requirements.

+ Participate in technical discussions, root cause evaluations, and system health assessments.

+ Ensure application of ASME codes, nuclear standards, and NRC regulations in all engineering reviews and decisions.

+ Stay current on EPU-related technologies, trends, and performance implications to support plant modernization.

    Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

+ Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible commercial nuclear experience.

+ Prior experience with Extended Power Uprate (EPU) projects is highly preferred.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems in nuclear plants and familiarity with the applicable ASME codes, NRC regulations, and QA processes.

+ Ability to critically evaluate engineering calculations and design packages prepared by external organizations.

+ Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with vendors, contractors, project teams, and plant leadership.

+ Experience in a leadership or oversight role, ideally representing plant owner interests.

+ Professional Engineering (P.E.) License is preferred but not required.
