Controls Engineer – Boiler Systems
Chattanooga, TN | Expert Level
We’re seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with knowledge of boiler and pressure vessel systems to lead our controls team.
Key Responsibilities
+ Combustion Control Systems (CCS):
+ Design and tune fuel/air ratio control loops
+ Implement oxygen trim systems and flame detection
+ Monitor fuel flow for combustion efficiency
+ Boiler Control Systems (BCS):
+ Develop logic for steam pressure, drum level, and feedwater control
+ Configure PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
+ Ensure compliance with ASME and NFPA standards
+ Burner Management Systems (BMS):
+ Design safety interlocks and sequencing logic
+ Implement flame safeguard and emergency shutdown systems
+ Conduct HAZOP and SIL assessments
+ Project Engineering:
+ Lead/support boiler upgrades and new installations
+ Coordinate with cross-functional teams and vendors
+ Oversee commissioning, FAT/SAT testing
+ Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
+ Diagnose and resolve control system issues
+ Maintain P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control documentation
+ Train staff on system functionality

+ Technical Skills:
+ PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
+ HMI/SCADA development (Wonderware, Ignition)
+ PID tuning, electrical schematics, panel design
+ Industry Knowledge:
+ NFPA 85, ISA standards
+ Boiler operations and thermodynamics
+ Soft Skills:
+ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
+ Project management and collaboration
+ Clear technical communication

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $51.00 - $60.00/hr.
