About this Job
This is a fulltime position located at the State Museum in New Orleans.
The Louisiana State Museum, founded in New Orleans in 1906, is a statewide system of National Historic Landmarks and modern structures across Louisiana, housing thousands of artifacts and works of art reflecting Louisiana's legacy of historic events and cultural diversity.
This incumbent assists with the management of the construction, maintenance, and repair activities for the entire State Museum systems. It encompasses nine museum properties, a mixed residential/commercial building on Jackson Square, a Collection Management Facility (Seven of which are National Historic Landmarks). These museums span the entire state (from the city in Patterson in St. Mary Parish to the city Natchitoches in Natchitoches Parish). The mixed use residential/commercial building has 39 tenants where the staff is in charge of general maintenance, common area maintenance, cleaning, and a variety of needs of the tenants. Staffing is on call (24 hours) for all emergencies for all buildings throughout the museum systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in the building construction trade, building construction, building maintenance, or road or bridge construction or maintenance; OR
Completion of a two-year training program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trade, building construction, building maintenance, or road or bridge construction or maintenance; OR
Twelve semester hours in a construction field or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trade, building construction, building maintenance, or road or bridge construction or maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This is a highly responsible assistant supervisory, assistant administrative, assistant technical, and skilled position which includes assisting with planning, scheduling, assigning, directing, coordinating, reviewing, and evaluating daily operational and construction functions as well as multi-year projects.
+ Assists with inspecting premises to determine remodeling and alteration requirements.
+ Inspects personally and/or through tradesman the buildings and grounds to determine immediate and long-range repairs, corrective work, upkeep, hazards, etc.
+ Assists with developing maintenance programs for maintaining operations in line with proposals, required services, and funds allocated.
+ Assists with preparing recommendations for section budget, involving planning for equipment replacement and/or new equipment, materials, and supplies required, programs, to be initiated and staffing requirements.
+ Assists with the recommendations with the development and established procedures for the initiation and completion for maintenance projects.
+ Works closely with the Facility Maintenance Manager B, and professional staff in design and layout of museum exhibits, and directs and coordinates the activities of maintenance personnel assigned to fabricate, construct, and installation of exhibitions.
+ Assists with the evaluation of workmanship of skilled craftsman assigned to fabrication of millwork, iron work, architectural designs, etc.
+ Assists with the preparing of critical surveys of contracts, plan, and specifications.
+ Assists with inspections designated to determine necessary repairs, replacement, and safety of installations for special non-museum functions and scheduled.

Schedule:This is a fulltime position; may be required to work overtime and travel.
