Psychiatric Aidesplay a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. Job Duties:
+ Maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients ' whereabouts at all times, reporting and documenting
appropriately during assigned 12-hour shift. Assists in search and return of eloped patients. Assist in management of
aggressive behavior, utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques. Utilizes safety interventions to apply physical
restraints. According to hospital policy, observes, provides care, reports and documents patients' special precautions.
Interacts with patients as a therapeutic function. Observes and reports condition of patients to professional staff.
Conducts and facilitates groups in therapeutic activities such as unit meetings and work or activity therapies. Supervises
patients engaged in planned daily activities. Assists with admission and discharge procedures. In accordance with policy,
communicates pertinent information regarding patients, employees, visitors, unit personnel, etc. to supervisors or other
authorized persons. Participates in shift change report and attends patient staffing conferences and treatment team
meetings.
+ Teaches, assists and monitors patients with personal hygiene, grooming, and/or disrobing to ensure patients' rights
to privacy and dignity are respected. Monitors and reports nutritional habits. Assists in safeguarding patients ' monies and
personal valuables. Lifts, dresses, and bathes patients. Accompanies patients to clinics, meals, recreational activities,
field trips, etc. to ensure functions are completed in a safe manner. Performs required duties to maintain a safe and
sanitary environment for patients by assisting in cleaning physical surroundings, furnishings, and equipment in patient
care areas. Checks for safety hazards and reports findings. Performs housekeeping duties such as mopping spills,
changing bed linens, assists in making beds, washing and drying of patients' clothing.
+ Helps create and maintain a therapeutic environment for patients. Performs routine nursing duties such as taking
vital signs, weighing patients, collecting and labeling urine and lab specimens or drug screens. Documents on patients '
charts concerning behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, injuries, etc. Completes incident report
forms and other applicable reports. Assists with completion of initial assessments and re-assessments. Complies with
agency policy regarding patient abuse and neglect.
+ Serves as relief charge aide in absence of the Psychiatric Aide Supervisor 1. Assists or performs all other
paraprofessional nursing duties for provisions of patient care. Attends in-service training to maintain current competency
and meet standards. Adheres to Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health, Civil Service, CLSH and
all other governing bodies laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Willingly accepts and performs additional
duties and assignments necessary for the smooth operation of the hospital.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Job Appointment, Demotion, Transfer, or WAE
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Psychiatric Aide 1 or 2.
Compensation:This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $972.00 bi-weekly for a Psychiatric Aide 1 and $1040.00 bi-weekly for a Psychiatric Aide 2. Position is eligible for premium pay of $1.50 per hour and Longevity pay starting at $1.00 per hour.
