The **Core AI team** is dedicated to empowering every developer to shape the future with AI. This involves creating tools, platforms, and workflows that redefine software development and enable dynamic, AI driven applications.
This opportunity is on the **Agent Orchestrations and Workflows team** within Core AI focused not only on generating innovative ideas in the Agentic AI space and then applying them to developer processes and tools but also focused on generating innovative ideas from scratch. We actively engage in brainstorming and conceptualizing new disruptive possibilities while pulling together related product and research efforts across the company, the industry (competition and startups), the open-source community, and the research world academia to build great products. We work closely with contributors and leaders from relevant product and research teams to educate our point of view on issues and opportunities, collaboratively define concrete exploration plans, and bring the best ideas—whether developed internally or externally—to life as transformative products.
We are looking for a **Principal Software Engineer** that is passionate about AI, new technology, writing code, understanding and leveraging AI foundation models, and moving ideas from wonder to results. This is an opportunity to be part of a great team that has market-changing ideas and wants to help transform those ideas into reality.
Responsibilities
+ Guides team within and across teams in producing extensible, and maintainable code.
+ Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
+ Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
+ Leads identification of other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others.
+ Guides others through efforts and discussions for architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g., design, cost).
+ Creates proposals for architecture and design documents, and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Python, Java, TypeScript, or GO
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years of experience developing software on a cloud using at least two of the following languages: C#, Python, SQL, Java, Go
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
+ Experience building applications that use AI models
+ Experience in Application Programming Interfaces Frameworks
+ Demonstrated ability to define and deliver platforms from concept to production
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
