Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University ( CSU ). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
A Technical Editor – NEPA position is available with the Colorado State University Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ). The position will support document formatting, production, and technical writing for the U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii ( USAG -HI) NEPA Group. The position will be located at Wheeler Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks, Oahu.
The Technical Editor will assist in the preparation of documents prepared by the USAG -HI NEPA Group, such as: Environmental Assessments (EAs), Environmental Impact Statement (EISs), briefings, fact sheets, Public Involvement Plans, and Cultural Impact Assessments. They will collaborate with Environmental Analysts, planners, and subject matter experts to ensure the documents are technically accurate, easy to understand, and meet Army standards. They may review documents produced by outside entities to ensure standards are met. They will perform style and grammar editing, simplify complex language into easily readable content, and will format documents. The Technical Editor may prepare guidance that will enhance the efficiency and efficacy of the NEPA Group.
Candidates must have a strong understanding of technical writing principles and practices; excellent grammar, punction, and spelling; experience simplifying complex technical information, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe. Familiarity with NEPA /similar regulations is strongly preferred.
Compensation will commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) and does not currently allow for remote or hybrid work. Overnight travel may be required.
Relocation expenses are not available.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
+ Three or more years of professional editing experience.
+ Demonstrated experience editing and reviewing technical documents.
+ Strong understanding of technical writing principles and practices.
+ Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
+ Strong communication skills.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, especially cloud-based versions (e.g., Microsoft 365).
+ Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
+ Familiarity with regulations, such as NEPA .
+ Experience preparing or reviewing NEPA documents.
+ Experience with agency coordination (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Hawaii Governor’s Office and Department of Land and Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Division).
+ Experience working for the Federal government.
