    Job Summary

    The GPS Survey Technician is a field-oriented position that has the responsibility for the continuous development, delivery, management, and improvement of work activities as well as processes which directly support NiSource's GPS Program. This program acquires data through state-of-the-art surveying equipment, which is utilized in the enhancement of facility records, GIS, damage prevention practices, risk modeling, and operational excellence. The successful candidate has utility locating, digital mapping, GPS, surveying, damage prevention, GIS, and/or natural gas construction/service experience.  The technician will conduct Quality Assurance/Quality Control, mapping activities, training, and GPS Program support activities of existing buried gas facilities for the purpose of supporting the Company's Damage Prevention program by enhancing the quality of facility records. The Gas Survey & GPS Data Quality Technician position will directly contribute to upgrading the quality of NiSource gas facility records while improving damage prevention from third party excavation through directly supporting NiSource's GPS Program. Field Technicians provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution facilities.  Natural gas distribution facilities consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment.

    Essential Functions

    + Conducts Quality Assurance/Quality Control audits on company facility GPS mapping using survey grade GPS and traditional locate grade technology that consists of, but is not limited to, the review of facility location and attribute data..

    + Assists with GPS mapping support activities which may include the development and deployment of training and technical support programs of the gas facility GPS program for other stakeholder groups like Construction Services, Plant and Service O&M, Compliance, Engineering and/or contractor(s).

    + Executes on Program deliverables and assures compliance with proposed designs, company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes with little to no supervision

    + Ensures accurate and timely records reported in GIS and other applicable systems prior to delivery of facility records to production environment(s) with little to no supervision

    + Fostering the continuous improvement of pipeline safety by identifying, researching, developing, integrating, and supporting initiatives to enhance facility records quality and its delivery, maintenance, and application.

    + Assists with ensuring that organizational guidelines are met with safe/efficient high quality execution that complies with policies, practices, standards, and applicable codes.

    + Supports accurate, timely and complete recording of natural gas facilities records through Program collection.

    + Supports consistent communication with supervisors, key stakeholders and business partners.

    + Effective partnerships with Field Operations, Damage Prevention, Construction, Engineering, Compliance, IT and other Technical Operations functions.

    + Serve as SME on GPS field data collection and utilization as it pertains to Company standards, practices, and procedures, while trouble shooting, problem solving and analyzing work.

    + Prioritize and conduct job site visits to ensure compliance with data collection standards, practices and procedures.

    Required Qualifications For Position

    + High School Diploma or equivalent

    + Experience Level for listed experience requirements below: 0-2 years

    + Experience in utility locating, gas operations, utility damage prevention, utility mapping, GIS, field mapping, surveying, GPS data production or equivalent professional experience.

    + Experience working with geospatial technology including but not limited to GIS, CAD, GNSS, or surveying, OR experience with gas engineering design, records management, or operations records support

    + Experience working with utility asset records management

    + Proven effectiveness in a geographically dispersed and cross functional workforce, as well as in field operations.

    + Ability to engage in physical and health requirements necessary to function in a field role. (i.es walking, bending, equipment carry, etc) and ability to travel across state in company issued vehicle during normal business hours

    + Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software suites.

    + Ability to prioritize and manage work

    + Ability to travel across state during normal business hours, and willingness to travel outside normal business conditions when required.

    + Effective communication skills

    + Ability to complete and pass Operator Qualifications for job responsibilities

    + Demonstrated adherence to The NiSource Way

    + Knowledge of current field construction practices.

    + Ability to be self-directed and effective in a geographically dispersed organization.

    + DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State and good driving history Upon Hire

    Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

    + Associate's Degree or higher in GIS, Surveying or Engineering/ Science, or equivalent based discipline

    + Associates degree in an Engineering or GIS related discipline.

    Salary Range*:

    $52,400.00 - $73,300.00
