Engineer (Gas) to Principal Gas Engineer

This position is based out of Portsmouth, NH or Portland, ME. After training, a hybrid/remote work schedule will be available up to two days a week. This position will require travel to other DOC locations in Lunenburg, MA and Bangor, ME on a monthly basis depending on project needs. Mileage to locations outside of reporting location will be paid to the employee.

Position Purpose
Provide quality engineering services to internal and external clients and insure that the operation of the gas delivery system is optimized with respect to safety, reliability, economy and efficiency through the planning, design and implementation of distribution and transmission facilities to serve new and existing customers.

Plan and conduct work of considerable diversity and complexity requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of techniques, procedures, and criteria. Modify and extend theories, precepts and practices of engineering and related sciences to originate and develop alternatives in methods and procedures.

Perform analysis of the gas system and planning studies of system expansion alternatives. Identify, design and implement gas system modifications and improvements to achieve corporate objectives for safety, reliability, economy and efficiency.

Interpret, organize and execute engineering assignments; Coordinate and review the work of engineers and technicians on assigned projects; Coordinate the implementation of capital projects including responsibility for project management.

Provide technical assistance and training to engineering personnel and to personnel in other departments. Promote positive working relationships and provide the highest level of service to internal and external customers.

Demonstrate expertise in engineering software applications, develop new applications to facilitate engineering problem solving and analysis.
Qualifications for Engineer (Gas)
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
+ 0-2 Years Experience.
+ Strong analytical ability, communication, and computer skills.
Qualifications for Gas Engineer
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
+ Minimum of six years progressively responsible experience in gas engineering or directly related positions.
+ Strong analytical ability, excellent communication and computer skills.
Qualifications Senior Gas Engineer
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
+ 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in gas engineering or directly related positions.
+ State of NH and/or MA and/or ME registration as a Professional Engineer or eligibility to sit for PE exam.
+ Advanced understanding of natural gas pipeline design and operations including gate and district regulator station design, transmission and distribution pipeline design, and hydraulic modeling.
+ Strong knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations and relevant engineering and design standards (e.g. API, ASME, ASTM)
+ Project management experience including cost analysis and schedule management.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications Principle Gas Engineer
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering.
+ 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in gas engineering or directly related positions.
+ State of NH and/or MA and/or ME registration as a Professional Engineer or eligibility to sit for the PE exam.
+ Advanced understanding of natural gas pipeline design and operations including gate and district regulator station design, transmission and distribution pipeline design, and hydraulic modeling.
+ Strong knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations and relevant engineering and design standards (e.g. API, ASME, ASTM)
+ Project management experience including cost analysis and schedule management.
