Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
The Spindletop Museum part-time associate will engage visitors with information, provide excellent customer service, assist in maintaining the museum collections/displays, help with events and assist with cleaning and maintaining the spaces. A part-time associate is essential to assisting in everyday museum operations. This position works on weekends, helps to cover late nights “as late as 12am”, can help cover morning, day or evening shifts as needed. This position will report directly to the Spindletop Museum leadership.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ Monitor exhibit environment for pests and temperature/humidity fluctuations.
+ Lightly clean museum spaces (gift shop, lecture hall, buildings, and restrooms.
+ Grounds cleaning/maintenance.
+ Report issues to director or proper Lamar University Department.
+ Represent the museum at events.
+ Assist coordination with venues and events.
+ Prepare cash register for daily sales and close register to prepare daily deposit.
+ Gift shop sales includes cash register operation, cash handling, gift shop phone.
+ Greet visitors, sell tickets, share information about the museum, conducts gift shop business.
+ Tour Orientations.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, both in and outdoors; Must be able to lift, move or hold 30 or more pounds; Must be able to move tables and chairs.
Job Conditions:
Working conditions may involve exposure to variable weather conditions if working outside events or doing custodial duties; Will mostly be working in climate-controlled area.

Minimum Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Able to work late in the evenings, as late as midnight and weekends as needed.
