    Job Summary

    The Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute ( CVRTI ) at the University of Utah is seeking a Clinical Research Manager to oversee and coordinate clinical research operations for our innovative Phase I first-in-human cBIN1 gene therapy trial in heart failure. This pivotal role is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of the clinical trial—from regulatory oversight to operational execution—with a strong emphasis on patient safety, data integrity, and compliance. The ideal candidate will serve as a vital link between research teams, sponsors, clinical partners, and trial participants, ensuring the success of this groundbreaking gene therapy effort.

    Responsibilities

    + Directs the planning, implementation, and management of the Phase I first-in-human cBIN1 gene therapy trial, aligning study activities with institutional, sponsor, and federal regulatory requirements.

    + Develops and oversees research policies and operational procedures specific to CVRTI’s early-phase gene therapy initiatives.

    + Manages internal and external communications, ensuring seamless coordination between CVRTI , clinical investigators, hospital units, CROs, and industry sponsors.

    + Monitors early-phase clinical trial performance metrics, ensures protocol adherence, and leads regular safety and quality reviews.

    + Develops and manages research budgets and ensures efficient resource allocation within the cBIN1 program.

    + Leads the hiring, training, and performance evaluations of clinical research staff supporting the trial.

    + Collaborates with CVRTI faculty and leadership to expand cardiovascular clinical research initiatives aligned with the Institute’s translational mission.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

     

    This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.     Preferences

     

    + 4–6 years of progressively responsible clinical research experience, preferably in cardiovascular or gene therapy settings.

    + Demonstrated experience with IND trials, FDA submissions, and managing multicenter or first-in-human studies is strongly preferred.

    + Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.

    + Master’s degree in clinical research, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field may be preferred.
