    Position: Director of Athletics, Health and Physical EducationClosing Date: July 14, 2025Location: District WideStart Date: August 6, 2025Reports To: Superintendent of SchoolsPosition Overview:The Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education, directed by the Superintendent of Schools, is responsible for the supervision of all athletic programs and coaches, for the improvement of instruction in Physical Education and Health. The Director will ensure that all student-athletes are treated equitably and fairly and are provided meaningful opportunities for participation and playing time in all practices, scrimmages, games, and competitions, while supporting each team’s ability to remain competitive.Responsibilities:Physical Education and Health:

     

    + Develops short- and long-term goals for improvements of Physical Education and Health programs in line with state standards, best practices, and District Goals.

    + Assists the Office of Instruction in the development, implementation, and analysis of curriculum in the areas of Health and Physical Education for the school district.

    + Collaborates with the Office of Inclusive Education to establish and implement programs appropriate for students with special needs.

    + Completes timely observations that includes feedback that leads to the continuous improvement of physical education and health teachers.

    + Assists with hiring for K-12 Physical Education and Health vacancies.

    + Oversees the development and monitoring of Physical Education and Health Assessments.

    + Routinely visits schools and classrooms to establish sincere relationships and evaluates and assess programs.

    + Attends Physical Education and Health departmental meetings for the purpose of establishing and implementing District departmental policies.

    Athletics:

    + Develops short- and long-term goals for the continuous improvement of the Athletic program in line with best practices, the highest standards, and the District’s Goals.

    + Supervises, and promotes in the community, the establishment and operation of a sound and competitive interscholastic athletic program for all schools in the District where all students routinely participate in practices, athletic scrimmages, games, and competition to improve individual athlete growth as well as team and program growth.

    + Develops and oversees feeder programs leading to Modified, JV, and Varsity athletic programs, in conjunction with area non-school leagues (Rec, Travel, Etc.).

    + Implements District policies as they pertain to interscholastic athletics.

    + Coordinates the screening, selection, hiring, induction, and professional growth of Athletics staff members, while in compliance with the Districts procedures.

    + Supervises and evaluates all athletic coaches in the District which includes providing feedback on continuous improvement for all coaches.

    + Represents the District at all league, conference, Section, and NYS meetings concerning athletics in the District with integrity and professionalism.

    + Coordinates the athletic schedule of schools in the District, as they pertain to facilities, transportation, officials, etc., to ensure appropriate competitiveness and timeliness.

    + Ensures that athlete selection follows all ethical standards, NYSPHSAA requirements, NYSED requirements and District policies.

    + Assumes responsibility for the coordination of all athletic competitions in the District.

    + Assumes responsibility for security and ticket admissions at all athletic events.

    Parent and Community Engagement:

    + Fosters positive relationships with parents through effective communication.

    + Equitably engages diverse representation within the community to build support and partnerships for the interscholastic program.

    Budget Development

    + Develops and submits an annual budget in line with Athletics program goals for the purpose of routinely purchasing supplies and equipment for the district athletic program.

    + Annually determines the needs for equipment and supplies, with the help of building principals, for the purpose of establishing a budget to meet these needs.

    + Establishes and maintains a yearly inventory system of equipment and supplies.

    Professional Development:

    + Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with trends, methodologies, and advancements. This includes attending workshops, seminars and professional meetings such as Leadership Council, Instructional Council, the Districtwide Wellness Committee and the Summer Administrative Institute.

    + Collaborates with fellow administrators and staff to share best practices and enhance the overall learning and interscholastic experience for students.

    Other:

    + Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

    Qualifications:

    + New York State teacher certification in Physical Education as well as New York State certification as a School District Leader (SDL), School District Administrator (SDA), or School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS).

    + At least five years of successful experience as a physical education or health teacher.

    + At least five years of coaching or athletic experience at the modified, junior varsity, and varsity levels.

    + Knowledge of local leagues, Section V, and NYSPHSAA rules and regulations.

    + Knowledge of current trends and best practices in physical education and health, including assessment systems and data-driven instruction.

    + Demonstrated ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.

    + Demonstrated proficiency with technology.

    + Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment.

    + The ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues.

    + Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.

    + Valid NYS Driver’s License with the ability to be present at athletic games and competitions in the evenings and on weekends.
