    Job Summary:

    Caterpillar Trimble Controls Technology (CTCT), a joint venture between Caterpillar and Trimble, is seeking a **Vehicle Dynamics & Controls Simulation Engineer** to support the development of advanced positioning and control systems for heavy equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and deploying high-fidelity simulation models of electro-hydraulic mobile systems. These models play a critical role in enabling the design and validation of positioning and control algorithms.

     

    You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure simulation models are effectively integrated into the development process. Success in this position requires strong plant modeling skills, a solid engineering foundation, and the ability to deliver high-quality work within a structured development framework.

    What You Will Do:

    + Contributes to the development and deployment of plant model and simulation systems within the process framework established for the project. Contributes to the continuous improvement of these processes

    + Works with the project team, application domain experts and plant model users to establish achievable requirements

    + Active participant in project management through identification of project goals, establishing useful milestones, task breakdown, and effort estimates to support project scheduling, project tracking, and change control decisions

    + Creates simulation plant models of construction & mining machines and validates these models meet established requirements

    + Supports the successful deployment and adoption of the simulation plant model by the development teams that will use the models

    + Conducts technical design reviews as required by the project framework

    + Maintains and archives design documents, models, source code, and other deliverables required for the project

    + As necessary, works independently or with other personnel to plan and execute testing and data collection necessary to validate model performance

    + Other duties as required and requested by management

    Education requirement:

    Bachelor’s degree with a strong track record of professional contributions, or a Master’s or Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

    What skills you will have:

    Technical Excellence:

    + Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for modeling and simulation tasks.

    + Solid understanding of signal processing and statistical analysis techniques.

    + Background in at least one of the following areas:

    + Plant modeling

    + Multi-body dynamics (including ground interaction)

    + Hydraulic system modeling and simulation

    + Sensor modeling and simulation (e.g., GNSS, IMU)

    Problem Solving:

    + Strong analytical mindset with a proven ability to develop and implement effective solutions.

    + Demonstrated success in addressing complex engineering challenges both independently and collaboratively.

    + Applied knowledge of engineering principles in real-world scenarios.

    Effective Communications:

    + Skilled in conveying technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

    + Collaborative approach with a history of working effectively in cross-functional and global teams.

    Accuracy and Attention to Detail:

    + High level of precision in modeling, simulation, and data interpretation.

    + Consistent focus on quality, validation, and thoroughness in deliverables.

    Top Candidates Will Also Have:

    + Proven capability in multiple aspects of plant modeling (see above).

    + Strong foundation in Control System Design (e.g., MRAC, MPC, PID).

    + Working knowledge of Simscape or similar physical modeling tools (e.g., Amesim, Adams).

    + Solid grasp of numerical methods with the ability to diagnose and resolve simulation performance issues.

    + Skilled in writing high-quality MATLAB code, including object-oriented programming.

    + Familiar with version control systems for software or model-based development.

    + Exposure to reduced-order modeling (ROM) techniques and/or machine learning and deep learning algorithms.

    Additional Information:

    This position requires the candidate **to work onsite five days a week at the Mossville, IL office.**

    This position may require up to 10% travel.

    Summary Pay Range:

    $95,640.00 - $143,520.00

     

    Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
