Description
Position Summary:
The Director of Quality position develops, implements, and manages the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure continuous production and delivery of NWL products, including high-voltage transformers, inductors, capacitors, power supplies, electrostatic precipitators, and other engineered energy solutions. This leadership role ensures that all NWL products consistently meet or exceed internal standards, customer specifications, industry regulations, and production goals, while directly supporting operational efficiency, on-time delivery, gross margin improvement, and supplier development initiatives across the organization.
Job Duties:
+ Investigate and correct customer issues and complaints relating to quality, using root cause analysis and robust corrective action plans.
• Supervise, develop, and train workers engaged in quality inspection activities to ensure high productivity, high technical integrity, and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine and establish quality standards and reliability expectations of finished products.
• Provide technical and statistical expertise to cross-functional teams to support process capability improvements and production problem-solving.
• Formulate, document, and maintain quality control standards and ongoing quality control objectives aligned with operational goals.
• Create, document, and implement robust inspection criteria, procedures, and standards.
• Interpret and champion the quality control philosophy to all personnel throughout the company, promoting a culture of ownership and excellence.
• Interact with vendors and suppliers to ensure the quality of all purchased parts; drive supplier development programs to improve incoming material quality and reduce supply chain risks.
• Maintain an active leadership role on internal continuous improvement teams; lead or coach Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen events.
• Design, develop, and implement quality control training programs for staff at all levels.
• Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain departments to improve on-time delivery, first pass yield, manufacturing efficiency, and gross margin performance.
• Establish, track, and report key KPIs for Quality and Operational Excellence, including:
• First Pass Yield (Target >95%)
• Scrap and Rework Rates (Continuous Reduction)
• On-Time Delivery (Target >95%)
• Supplier Defect Rate (Year over Year Improvement)
• Customer Complaint Rate (Target <0.5%)
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact operational results, product quality, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications:
+ 7-10+ years in quality control, quality assurance, or continuous improvement, or operation leadership roles within industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor preferred; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification strongly desired.
• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams to drive operational improvements tied to quality and financial outcomes.
• Ability to deal effectively with all levels of management, production personnel, suppliers, and customers.
• Strong skills in establishing priorities, monitoring progress, resolving problems, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and data analysis tools.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a focus on strategic decision making using quality and operational performance data.
