Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
MSNBC is looking for a highly organized and enthusiastic Desk Associate to join our newsgathering team. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment. The Desk Associate will support the assignment desk with communication, coordination, and content management responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
+ Serve as the first point of contact by professionally answering the desk phone: “MSNBC, this is [Your Name]”
+ Visually verify UGC video as rights and clearances for MSNBC
+ Collect visual elements: clearing video, bringing in video on the grid, requesting video from stations, cutting video and sharing from stations
+ Assist with booking travel for reporters and field teams
+ Monitor daily lineups (DLs) and ensure that relevant video elements are properly added to designated Slack threads
+ When reaching out to affiliate stations for editorial information, ensure video content is also requested
+ Use AI transcription for feeds
+ Book camera crews for field teams
+ Travel to breaking news events to help coordinate on-site coverage efforts
+ At least 1 year experience in television production
+ Strong communication and organizational skills
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented newsroom environment
+ Attention to detail and willingness to learn newsroom systems and tools (e.g., Slack, iNews)
+ Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
+ Availability for flexible scheduling, including nights and weekends

Salary Range: $19.00/hour-$26.00/hour
