    POSITION SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Vice President (VP) of Development is a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting RiseBoro. In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build RiseBoro’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP of Development will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.

     

    The VP of Development will be primarily responsible for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $50M budget by soliciting major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, annual giving, and corporate and foundation support.

     

    The VP will expand and diversify RiseBoro’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the VP will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.

     

    The amount raised by RiseBoro is expected to increase in future years as the VP systematically and effectively strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity. The Director of Institutional Giving and the Development Operations Manager report to the VP, and more positions will be hired soon.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives

    + Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to develop and implement RiseBoro’s financial strategy

    + Actively work with the CEO and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, etc.

    + Have primary responsibility for the development and execution of all individual and corporate proposals; write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach

    + Design and implement a strategic major gifts program, including mapping out tailored benefits levels, building portfolios for the CEO and yourself, and implementing moves management

    + Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position RiseBoro ahead of major funding changes or trends

    + Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to the board and senior leaders

    + Create a comprehensive donor stewardship program, including donor recognition, impact reporting, and frequent communications to increase donor retention

    + Establish a detailed annual development calendar

    + Provide a strong narrative and guidance on donor communications and broader organizational marketing strategy

    + Work in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer to set fundraising goals and develop and manage the annual budget for Development

    + Oversee the Director of Institutional Giving in grant writing, reporting, and cultivation

    + Oversee the Development Operations Associate in events, database management, appeals, development administration, and other activities

    + Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program

    + Identify, develop, and mentor the development team

    COMPETENCIES

    + Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships

    + Strategic fundraising professional with the demonstrated ability to meet goals, independently drive activity, and close 5-plus figure gifts

    + Strong organizational skills

    + Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives

    + Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside RiseBoro

    + High energy and passion for RiseBoro’s mission are essential

    + Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan

    + Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail

    + A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time

    + Working knowledge of donor CRMs strongly preferred

     

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

     

    + Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred

    + 10-plus years of professional experience in nonprofit organizations; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
