    Job Overview

     

    The Night Pharmacist is responsible for providing medication management, clinical support and consultative services in a complex pharmacy operation. This position partners with key stakeholders to drive patient and family education, medication safety, quality assurance, customer service, process improvement and regulatory compliance. This position may also participate in education of pharmacy students and residents.

     

    Hours worked in this role will normally be documented as seven consecutive shifts of 10 hours in a two week period, paid as 80 hours of work.

     

    St. John's Hospital is a 184-bed community hospital in Maplewood, MN. Patient Care Areas include: Medical, Surgical, Cardiology, Neurology, Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, Maternity Care, Emergency Medicine (37-bed Emergency Department), and Oncology.

     

    This overnight pharmacist position is 7/70, rotation schedule is Monday - Sunday.

    Job Expectations:

    + Provide clinical pharmacy services to all patients in assigned area using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This includes order verification, dispensing of medication, completing review for all patients, monitoring, adjusting patient therapies and documenting changes according to department policies and pharmacy regulations.

    + Provide clinical, formulary and pharmacotherapy expertise and act as a resource to Pharmacy Technicians, Nurses, Providers and other members of the care team.

    + Provide clinical pharmacy services to all patients in assigned area using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This includes dispensing of medication, completing review for all patients, monitoring, adjusting patient therapies and documenting changes according to department policies and pharmacy regulations.

    + Act as resource for pharmaceutical care to patients, partnering with interdisciplinary care team members to ensure appropriateness of medication order and therapy, drug selection, formulary correctness and compliance any other formulary or departmental initiatives as appropriate.

    + Accountable for the distribution and/or preparation of medications, sterile products, compound IV mixtures and other extemporaneous orders as appropriate.

    + Maintain proficiency in the skills and theory of the practice of pharmacy by reviewing literature, attending in-services, seminars and conferences and actively participating in department clinical meetings and activities.

    + Participate in regulatory, quality assurance and process improvement activities as required.

    + Meets all regulatory requirements.

    + Uses available information technology and other resources to support day-to-day work operations

    + Other duties as assigned.

    + Fulfills all organizational requirements

    + Completes all required learning relevant to the role

    + Complies with all relevant laws, regulation and policies

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

    Required

    + License: Minnesota Pharmacist License

    Preferred

    + Experience: one year pharmacist experience in complex healthcare (hospital pharmacy) environment; Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency Program

    + Doctor of Pharmacy degree

    Compensation Disclaimer

     

    The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical.
