NOTE: THIS POSTING REPRESENTS A MULTI-LEVEL POSTING. IF THIS POSITION IS NOT FILLED BY A QUALIFIED APPLICANT AT THE ENGINEER SENIOR LEVEL, THE POSITION WILL BE FILLED AT THE ENGINEER 2 GRADUATE LEVEL.
Job Duties:
+ This position exists to assist the District Materials Engineer by providing direct engineering supervision in preparation of soils recommendations, surface type reports, and to review construction projects to resolve soils/materials problems.
+ Provide materials design recommendations to Detail Design, so that construction plans and special provisions can be prepared in accordance with accepted construction practices.
+ Supervise and direct the work of direct reports in meeting district and department goals.
+ Determine the pavement fix, for project scoping’s, to achieve the most economical and appropriate pavement design.
+ Determine candidate projects and related repair strategies for the pavement preservation and reconstruction categories of the District STIP/CHIP in order to maintain District pavement at acceptable levels.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:
+ Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design(AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
+ Valid Class D Drivers’ License
To qualify, Engineer 2 Graduate applicants must meet all the following:
+ A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.
+ A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
+ Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.
+ Valid Class D Drivers’ License
OR
+ A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or it’s equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC AND
+ A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
+ One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.
+ Valid Class D Drivers’ License
OR
+ Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.
+ Valid Class D Drivers’ License
Preferred Qualifications
+ Knowledge of pavement design procedures, traffic loading principles, construction practices, specifications, special provisions, pavement distresses and their related causes.
+ Material properties, such as geo-textiles, bituminous, concrete, soil identification, soil properties and characteristics associated with their use in highway engineering and construction.
+ Ability to analyze and interpret construction plans to determine if they meet standards and comply with specifications. Knowledge of cost estimating, and life cycle cost analysis principles and programs.
+ Ability to review technical information and arrive at solutions to problems as they arise and to respond to information in the form of written and verbal reports.
+ Extensive human relation skills necessary to motivate communicate, set achievement standards, assess working conditions, take firm and decisive action, and develop employees.
