    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the drug distribution process to include, but not limited to: supervision and training of technicians, employee feedback involvement for technicians in the process/area, ensuring adequate stock levels of drugs are maintained, and ensuring all drug distribution records are maintained. The supervisor will perform duties as necessary to ensure the timely processing, preparation, and dispensing of patient medication orders in accordance with current regulatory and practice standards.

     

    Responsibilities also include delegation of assignments to maintain appropriate technician staffing levels, ensuring that services of the department are provided in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner, and performance of other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Director and Operations Manager.

    What you will do in this role:

    + Perform all basic duties of pharmacist in the drug distribution process.

    + Prepare technician schedules in appropriate timeframes and ensure shifts are covered with the appropriate staff and skill level to meet departmental needs.

    + Supervise technicians in the performance of their assigned duties on a daily basis and prioritize tasks in the event of staffing shortages.

    + Assign, maintain, and update pharmacy technician job responsibility lists to the IV-room and Pharmacy Satellites and oversee compliance with those requirements.

    + Assist with ensuring the departmental USP 797 compliance and documentation for all staff.

    + Help maintain departmental policies and procedures related to sterile product preparation, storage, and distribution.

    + Actively communicate policy and procedure changes to appropriate staff.

    + Oversee and direct workflow related to sterile product compounding.

    + Routinely scan parenteral medications and supplies and coordinate with buyer to place orders.

    + Assign and ensure compliance with required IV-room cleaning procedures per USP <797>.

    + Ensure all IV-compounding logs are accurately completed and filed appropriately.

    + Ensure appropriate daily hand off procedures are in place and being adhered to by direct reports.

    + Assist in the development of new departmental projects and staff education related to sterile processing.

    + Assist in training of new pharmacists, pharmacy students, and technicians.

    + Monitor IV-medication drug supply. Assist the Operations Manager with communicating stock needs and drug shortages pertinent to meeting the immediate needs of patients with the pharmacy staff.

    + Provide medication information to healthcare staff, pharmacokinetic dosing, assistance with technical duties, and dispensing services.

    + Maintain professional growth and development through participation in seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to remain current in field sterile product preparation, storage, and handling.

    + Evaluate the performance of IV-room staff, assist with personnel performance reviews and assist with the development and retention of competent personnel in coordination with the Pharmacy Operations Manager.

    + Manage personnel to include interviewing, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development problem resolution, evaluating performance, making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivating employees to achieve peak performance. Maintain responsibility for employee’s output and provide constructive feedback with supervised employees in a timely manner.

    + Conduct timely coaching and mentoring sessions as necessary.

    + Adhere to all facility and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards in the performance off work duties.

    + Help ensure that the department is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.

    + Monitor and verify completion of PI and QA processes within the department. Verify and coordinate completion of unit/area inspections, expiration date audits and IV-work area inspections to ensure on-time completion and documentation.

    + Attend meetings as required and participate on committees as requested.

    + Participate in professional/civic organizations and activities as needed.

    + Assist in medication formulary management and compliance.

    + Set the expectation for team player qualities.

    + Maintain compliance with required classes and vaccinations by CMC.

    What qualifications you will need:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy required; PharmD degree preferred

    + Current and active Tennessee Pharmacist license in good standing required.

    + Knowledge of general pharmacy practice policies and procedures required.

    + Minimum of 3 years of hospital experience required.

    + Background in pharmacy distribution, operations, and automation applications required.

    + Minimum 1 year of experience in managing task-oriented staff preferred.
