Job Description

Our client is seeking a DBA to work on a SQL Database on Azure. This role is estimated to work 20-30 hours a week and is considered part time.

They are looking for someone who has experience with Azure SQL Database as a Service (DBaaS).

This person would have used the Azure Service Portal (portal.azure.com) to create, maintain and admin the databases. This person would be knowledgeable in the 3 vCore (the DTU tiers) based purchasing tiers/model that Microsoft offers are

Service Tiers

1. General Purpose: Balanced compute and storage for common workloads.

2. Business Critical: High transaction rates and low-latency I/O for OLTP applications.

3. Hyperscale: Scalable storage up to 128 TB for large workloads

They need 2+ years working with Azure SQL DataBase service and the knowledge of how to navigate and use the Portal page for all of the DBA functionality.

The role entails setting up the databases in Azure SQL, copying databases, maintaining databases, indexing databases, monitoring performance, performance tuning, backing up the databases, setting up alerts for capacity with CPUs and memory, monitoring alerts, restoring corrupt databases as needed, archiving database older than 3 years. They will also manage private endpoints for access to the databases.

The clients environment is a cloud environment in Azure. They also have managed instance in some cases.

The client has 4 environments (Production, Pre-production, Development (General Purpose Tier)and QA). They have 10 databases in Production with the largest being 300 GB. In total, they have about 20 DBs.

This role will entail the following responsibilities:

-SQL DBA work in the Azure Portal

-Admin work with Azure

-Re-assess existing SQL infrastructure in Azure.

-Production databases related to our POS system with will need to do upgrades.

-Ability to review current Azure environment and SQL database environment and provide suggestions on how to save money on the cloud.

-Archiving old data to reduce the footprint in storage (effort to reduce costs and duplicate).

-Ability to work part time at 20-30 hours per week.

-Ability to work USA East Coast hours - estimated shift is 8 AM EST to 12 PM EST

-This role will likely work from India and work from the Hyderabad location.

Skills and Requirements

Work East Coast hours

-Experience working in the Azure portal (portal.azure.com) for DataBase work

-2 years experience as a SQL DBA on Azure

-DBA experience like - setting up the databases in Azure SQL, copying databases, maintaining databases, indexing databases, monitoring performance, performance tuning, backing up the databases, setting up alerts for capacity with CPUs and memory, monitoring alerts, restoring corrupt databases as needed, archiving database older than 3 years.

-Experience managing private endpoints for access to the databases

-Experience with Azure Data Studio (SQL management studio is the older version and this will suffice.) Understanding of FinOps to give suggestions on how to reduce the spend on the cloud.

Compensation:

$15/hr to $20/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
