    Duties Description Position SummaryThe Assistant Director of CRE Equity Investments (Acquisitions) will work collaboratively with the Director of CRE Equity Investments and other Real Estate department management to formulate and implement the equity real estate investment strategy.Job DutiesThe duties of the Assistant Director of CRE Equity Investments include, but are not limited to, the following:Identify, evaluate and underwrite new or additional equity investments through the following investment vehicles: separate accounts, commingled funds, joint ventures and public real estate securitiesManage, either directly or in collaboration with NYSTRS real estate advisors, the investment due diligence processTogether with NYSTRS counsel, or special counsel, assume responsibility for the negotiation and approval of appropriate investment documentsOversee junior staff participation in all acquisitions related activitiesPerform property and market inspections as necessaryAttend industry conferences, trainings and meetings as necessary to stay abreast of industry trends and to establish business relationshipsEstablish relationships with peer institutional investors to compare/contrast portfolio strategies and opportunitiesPrepare and make presentations to the Internal Investment Committee, the Real Estate Advisory Committee and the BoardOther Duties and Responsibilities:Assist in training, mentoring and supervising student interns and Investment Fellows as neededMonitor commingled fund performance to identify drivers of performance, conflicts and concernsRepresent NYSTRS at LP advisory committee meetings as neededParticipate in the preparation of the portfolio strategic planTravel and Work EnvironmentPeriodic travel is requiredBusiness needs may require working outside of normal business hours

     

    Minimum Qualifications Minimum QualificationsA bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field; ANDSix (6) years of professional investment experience including at least three (3) years analyzing, evaluating, recommending, or monitoring institutional private and/or public market investments; ANDThree (3) years in a supervisory or management role

     

    Additional Comments Preferred QualificationsExcellent communication, writing and presentation skillsProven leadership and project management skillsDemonstrated experience in analyzing complex investment structuresSuperior analytical and critical thinking skillsPrevious financial analysis experienceAbility to work in a team environment, providing and accepting input/feedback on transactionsPrevious real estate experience and knowledgeComputer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft productsCommitment to providing exceptional customer serviceExcellent interpersonal skillsMaster’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a closely related fieldPossessing or pursuing one or more of the following certifications: CFA, CPA, CCIM, CAIA
