The primary responsibility of this position is to provide engineering services to develop, design, contract, and administer a complete fuel site replacement program for the Department. This is a professional level engineering/technical position with a high level of responsibility for developing and designing replacement fuel sites throughout the state. This position assists with the programmatic replacement and maintenance plan for all DOT fuel sites. This position will also be responsible for creating engineering drawings for various equipment builds and parts required for the manufacture and repair of NCDOT equipment, both new and existing. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining all electronic catalogs that pertain to Fleet Procurement. Will support the State Maintenance Operations Engineer and State Equipment Superintendent with data analysis and reporting. This position assists with engineering drawings for in-house builds and special attachments mounted on equipment delivered to the field. Assist with producing engineering drawings for repairs to existing field units. The Other duties as assigned.

+ Knowledge of transportation and regulatory policies and procedures.
+ Experience organizing resources, planning, scheduling, and coordinating work in order to maintain schedules.
+ Knowledge of computer systems including CADD systems, and large database programs, such as SAP and AutoCAD.
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze fuel storage, fuel piping systems, dispensing systems, hydraulics, mechanical drives electrical circuitry, and equipment components
Additional Expectations:
Must have the capability of monitoring that regulatory UST compliance is being maintained; fuel usage is properly tracked and reported; identified fuel site related maintenance issues are being prioritized, scheduled, and properly resolved; assist with the coordination of construction drawings and specifications, the securing of regulatory approvals, and the advertising, awarding, and contract administration of fuel related projects. May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
