    Position Details

    General Statement

     

    The Instructional Technology Support team is responsible for the design, installation, and support of audio/visual, video conferencing and computer technologies in classrooms, conference rooms and other learning spaces across the Montana State University ( MSU ) campus.

     

    The person in this position provides live technical support for faculty, staff, students, and others in the daily use of classroom and meeting room Audio/Visual (A/V) equipment, instructional software and video conferencing technologies; conducts individual trainings and group workshops to orient faculty and staff to the use of technology installed in classrooms and meeting rooms; and working under the supervision of the AV team lead, assists with the design, purchase, install, and maintenance of new A/V technology and modernization projects.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Audio Visual (A/V) and Desktop Support

     

    + Provide on-call technical support for classroom technology working to resolve and triage issues in a timely manner.

    + Manage and triage helpdesk tickets for classroom technology.

    + Work toward resolution of classroom technology issues, coordinating with other AV Support and IT Community team members as necessary, including follow-up for ongoing issues.

    + Assist in the set-up and ongoing support of podium computers.

    + Process equipment replacements, warranties, and RMA’s.

     

    A/V System Design and Installation

     

    + Under the supervision of the AV team lead, assist with the planning, design, procurement, installation, documentation, and ongoing support of new A/V systems and system upgrades in classrooms and meeting rooms across campus, with opportunity to grow into future project management and design responsibilities.

    + Triage incoming requests from campus stakeholders for A/V system upgrades and new installations.

    + Working under the supervision of the AV team lead, prepare classrooms for upgrades through the assessment, removal, disposal and reallocation of existing equipment.

     

    User Training and Support

     

    + Train and onboard users for technology use in classrooms, conference rooms and other learning spaces around campus.

    + Develop how-to documentation for new systems.

     

    Inventory Management

     

    + Monitor stock of replacement and spare equipment, ordering additional inventory as necessary to maintain product availability.

    + Coordinate unit-level asset inventory and apply property tags to equipment.

     

    Digital Signage

     

    + Serve as primary point of contact for consultation with departments looking to install digital signage.

    + Troubleshoot and support hardware and software underlying digital signage software.

    + Provide internal training to UIT staff on supporting digital signage.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

    + Minimum of two years of education and/or experience in the installation and maintenance of A/V equipment or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

    + Demonstrated experience with A/V equipment and control systems and best practices associated with installation, configuration and operation of A/V equipment.

    + Knowledge of basic networking principles and troubleshooting procedures.

    + Demonstrated experience with enterprise level desktop management and software support.

    + Demonstrated experience supporting technology in a higher education or enterprise IT environment.

    + Demonstrated experience supporting hardware and/or software-based video conferencing.

    + Demonstrated experience with effective training methods and material design.

    + Experience with Extron control and switching equipment.

    + Build and maintain partnerships with customers, MSU IT peers, student workers, and campus offices by regularly demonstrating a high level of customer service, technical expertise, and professionalism.

    + Skillfully research and resolve technical problems.

    Physical Demands

    This position requires the ability to:

    + Use a monitor, keyboard, and mouse for long periods of time.

    + Transport computer equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.

    + Ascend/descend ladders and transport/move equipment up a ladder up to 30 feet off the ground.

    + Maneuver within crawl spaces, ceilings, mechanical rooms, and other unfinished spaces.
