The primary purpose of this position is: To provide professional clinical social work or marriage and family therapy services in support of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP). As the Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist (FAIS), designs, develops, coordinates and implements the secondary prevention component of FAP. Responsibilities Designs, develops, coordinates, and implements the secondary prevention component of FAP. Serves as the installation secondary prevention subject matter expert (SME), providing consultation to installation leadership regarding needs assessment, determining prevention requirements, and developing secondary prevention services. Responsible for case management activities occurring from initial referral and counseling, through case closure, or transfer. Functions as a subject matter expert and initial point of contact for at-risk for violence families. Provides professional advisory services and training to other health care professionals, installation personnel, and community agencies concerning secondary prevention programs; and serves as community liaison with military and civilian agencies. Risk and Clinical Assessment: Works independently as a licensed clinical provider and uses advanced concepts, principles, procedures, practices, professional knowledge and sound judgment executing the clinical component of the FAP IAW program requirements and accepted standards of professional conduct. Crisis Intervention. Independently performs crisis intervention services to ensure the safety of, and prevent further harm to, victims of family maltreatment. Appropriately triages and provides necessary clinical services to ensure the protection and safety of victims and families. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements for 0185 and 0101 series and Group Standard for Professional & Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR 0185 Degree: Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR 0101 Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: 0185 SOCIAL WORK SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level which equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of Social Worker (Family Advocacy)/Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Examples of specialized experience includes Applying a professional knowledge of clinical social work and family therapy practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial, and environmental issues. Providing knowledge in the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies. Using knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families, and the varied resources needed to treat them. Applying professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families. Evaluating and determining the best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services. Assessing, intervening, and providing therapeutic intervention. 0101 Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level which equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of Social Worker (Family Advocacy)/Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Providing knowledge in the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies. Using knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families, and the varied resources needed to treat them. Applying professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families. Evaluating and determining the best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services. Assessing, intervening, and providing therapeutic intervention. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of clinical social work or marriage and family therapy practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial, and environmental issues. 2. Knowledge in the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies. 3. Knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families, and the varied resources needed to treat them. 4. Skill and ability to directly apply professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families. 5. Ability to evaluate and determine best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services. 6. Ability to assess, intervene, and provide therapeutic intervention. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
