Operational Technology Engineer Power Generation & Compliance
The Operational Technology Engineer Power Generation & Compliance provides all administration, integration, security, and NERC CIP compliance implementation activities associated with OT systems and equipment used to monitor and control District generation facilities, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), other routable network connected industrial control systems (e.g. programmable logic controller and their human machine interface systems), operational data historians, emissions monitoring systems, and predictive maintenance related equipment at the ECC, Energy Plaza, Energy Production facilities and other District sites. This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, modification, troubleshooting, documentation, and compliance on equipment associated with these systems; ensuring said equipment supports operational reliability, performance, and security requirements. T his position leverages technical expertise to successfully implement various projects, support OT applications, and provide excellent customer service to Utility Operations
Ensure Reliable OT System Operations: Maintain real-time reliability and performance of OT devices and systems used to monitor, control, and record operational data. Manage priorities across a dynamic operational environment to support 24x7 Utility Operations.
Support Field Operations and Troubleshooting Activities: Collaborate with generation OT teams to resolve operational challenges and implement corrective actions. Apply OT expertise to minimize operational disruptions and ensure seamless coordination with fieldwork activities.
Plan, Execute, and Secure OT Infrastructure: Design, administer, and maintain OT infrastructure and cyber security protocols to support reliability and operational excellence. Oversee integration and testing for ICS projects and infrastructure initiatives aligned with Utility Operations.
Lead Compliance and Cybersecurity Best Practices: Ensure all OT systems meet NERC CIP compliance requirements and uphold cyber security standards. Support process improvements and maintain thorough documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and reduce risk exposure.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise in OT Domains: Serve as an OT technical SME in key areas such as SCADA/DCS HMI systems, network infrastructure, and communication platforms. Lead projects and continuously develop systems knowledge to support team and organizational goals.
Support Strategic OT Initiatives and Technology Governance: Align OT efforts with broader technology governance and strategic planning. Contribute to projects, asset management, and process improvements that enable future-ready infrastructure and evolving utility needs.
Qualifications
Required:
+ Four (4) years of proven relevant work experience, preferably supporting ICS/SCADA systems or OT networks; or a Bachelor¿s degree in relevant technical or engineering discipline and two (2) years of relevant work experience. Special projects, committee work, intern work or unique technical sills may be considered for experience requirements
+ A fundamental knowledge of system administration, networking, and/or virtualization principles, particularly with Windows, Linux/Unix, and Cisco
+ Proficient knowledge in one or more of the following OT tracks: network infrastructure, SCADA/DCS HMI systems, data/communication systems, management systems, and security/compliance
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate with all levels
+ Excellent customer service and ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with moderate supervision. Requires exceptional organizational skills, problem solving skills, and flexibility in changing priorities.
Desired:
+ NERC CIP compliance experience
+ Experience, education or certification in relevant software applications, networking, or ICS cyber security (e.g. SANS, ISACA, CompTIA, etc.) such as CISSP certification
+ Fundamental knowledge of NIST standards and other security frameworks
+ Fundamental knowledge of electric utility energy production and energy delivery systems
