    The City of Littleton Finance Department has an opportunity for an accountant to join the team with responsibility for a wide range of accounting duties, from simple to complex including balancing and reconciling a variety of accounts, making journal entries, and processing financial and budget information. This position is part of a career progression series.

    Hiring pay range for Accountant II level: $73,500 - $77,400** **per year

     

    Hiring pay range for Senior Accountant level: $90,000 - $94,700** **per year

     

    This full-time position is exempt per FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Verifies and processes accounting data, completes and maintains general ledger accounts and funds.

    + Analyzes financial information to prepare reports, statements and schedules.

    + Completes and formats reports for use in financial analysis.

    + Reconciles and analyzes fund and account activity.

    + Completes payroll import journal entries.

    + Prepares and/or reviews bank reconciliations and related journal entries.

    + Prepares and analyzes reports and projections for management review.

    + Assists with preparing periodic financial statements for all funds.

    + Completes audit workpapers for external auditor.

    + Assists with preparing fund financial statements for the comprehensive annual financial report (ACFR).

    + Independently identifies, researches, and resolves problems, develops controls and provides recommendations to improve the accounting processes.

    + Prepares and completes special projects and reports. assists in developing work goals and objectives.

    + Prioritizes work to meet goals and objectives for self and others.

    + Interprets and implements authoritative pronouncements.

    + Assist with the ERP implementation and related integrated systems as needed.

    + Communicates and resolves related issues.

    + Performs additional duties as assigned.

    + May serve as an emergency worker.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications for Accountant II:

    + Bachelor's degree in accounting; and

    + Two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a large organization; or

    + An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.

    + Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

    Minimum Qualifications for Senior Accountant:

    + Bachelor's degree in accounting; and

    + Four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a large organization; or

    + An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.

    + Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    _The following are preferred, but not required. The city will pay for training and continuing education in your field of work._

     

    + Public sector accounting experience

    + Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) or similar certifications

    + Experience with Workday

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    + Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, GAAP and GASB.

    + Knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively deal with a variety of individuals within and outside the organization using effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

    + Ability to understand and explain simple to complex accounting standards to internal and external customers.

    + Requires skills and abilities that include analyzing data, breaking down problems, identifying relationships between issues, making complex plans. and displaying high attention to detail with assigned projects and tasks.

    + Skills and abilities that involve written and verbal communication techniques for report writing, correspondence, providing customer service, giving presentations, directions, or feedback.

    + Skills and abilities that include analyzing data, breaking down problems, identifying and solving relationships between issues.

    + Ability to display high attention to detail with assigned projects and tasks.

    + Ability to lead, direct, and coordinate the work of direct staff including providing feedback, and informing others.

    + Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

    + Work is performed indoors in a standard office environment.

    + Occasionally lifting and carrying of files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
