*The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) – Office of Human Resources*is currently recruiting for a*Human Resources Associate I*. Under general supervision, performs a wide range of specialized administrative duties in support of various Human Resources functions and processes to include areas such as employee relations, employment, and human resources information systems. Although this position reports directly to the Employee & Labor Relations (ELR) Leave Administrator, approximately 25% of the role’s responsibilities are dedicated to the HR Service Center, with assignments directed by the HR Service Center Supervisor Prior experience and proficiency with MS Office Suite and related programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, 365, Teams) and PeopleSoft, Image Now and other Human Resources Information Systems preferred. Interprets and distributes announcements, bulletins, and directives. Assists others in completing human resources forms and transactions. * Provides daily front desk phone coverage for HR-related calls, screens and triages incoming calls and visitors, independently handles routine matters when applicable and/or forwards questions/issues to appropriate parties. * Assists in completing I-9 employment eligibility verifications as part of the onboarding process. * Responds to unemployment claims within pre-determined time limits. * Receives, and processes mail, distributes employment, payroll, benefits, and other human resources documents as needed to appropriate parties. Verifies completeness, accuracy and consistency of data and related reports. Performs basic mathematical computations. * Gathers and consolidates data for recurring reports following general instructions. * Accurately inputs, updates, and maintains data in digital systems, ensuring completeness and integrity of information. * Drafts, composes, and disseminates, routine correspondence related to Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Parental Leave and other supplemental leave types. * Assists in coordinating human resources programs such as employee orientation/onboarding, offboarding/ exits, pulse experience surveys, staff development/ training, benefits enrollment, and employee engagement activities. * Schedules, organizes, and assists with departmental meetings and trainings within HRS. * Participates in meetings and accurately records detailed minutes for distribution and documentation. * Assists in establishing and updating human resources files and databases. Reviews and audits data for accuracy. Ensures confidentiality of information as required * Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with employees and campus partner organizations. * Researches and resolves problems related to clerical functions and human resources transactions. * Operates manual and automated office equipment to prepare and maintain documents and information as required. * Assists in scanning documents into personnel files, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with company policies and legal requirements. * Performs other duties as assigned and may assist with special projects related to other functional areas within the HRS department. * Ability to support the UMB and HR mission and strategic plan. Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery. *Human Resources Associate I* *Education:*High School Diploma or GED. *Experience:*Three (3) years’ clerical experience, one year of which must have involved the application of human resources policies and procedures. *Other:*Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. *Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:* Knowledge and skill of general human resources practices and procedures. Ability to understand and interpret human resources policies and procedures; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure; to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact; to organize and execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints with general instructions; to perform mathematical computations; and to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. *Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are not eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).* *Hiring Range:$47,904.40 - $54,000post probation, Commensurate with education and experience.* UMB is committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce and is proud to be an equal employment opportunity employer.
