    The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is looking for a dynamicHuman Resources Directorto champion a culture of exceptional service — supporting the dedicated people who conserve and protect our state’s natural resources and serve our communities every day.

     

    To excel as the Human Resources Director for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to championing continuous improvement, always seeking ways to strengthen HR processes, streamline operations, and deliver better service to employees and stakeholders. They will mentor and lead by example, fostering a collaborative, supportive environment where HR staff are encouraged to grow, share knowledge, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism. They will bring initiative and innovation to the role, proactively identifying opportunities to modernize HR practices and implement creative solutions that meet evolving Agency and HR matters.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Eight years of human resources experience; OR

    Six years of full-time experience in any field plus five years of human resources experience; OR

    A bachelor’s degree plus five years of human resources experience; OR

     

    An advanced degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, industrial and organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or a Juris Doctorate plus four years of human resources experience.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

     

    Designation as a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    As the HR Director, you will:

    + Lead, develop, and mentor the HR team to deliver outstanding internal customer service.

    + Oversee all HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, classification and compensation, performance management, benefits administration, and compliance with state and federal employment laws.

    + Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and employee engagement.

    + Ensure HR processes and policies are clear, efficient, and accessible to all employees.

    + Develop and implement training and professional development programs that empower staff and strengthen service delivery.

    + Handle sensitive personnel matters with integrity, confidentiality, and fairness.

    + Build strong partnerships with managers, supervisors, and external stakeholders to support agency goals.

    Position-Specific Details:

    This vacancy may be filled by new hire or by promotion of a current permanent status classified employee. A permanent status employee may be required to serve a new probationary period in lieu of promotion.

     

    This position will be domiciled (where the position will report to work) in East Baton Rouge Parish.
