    LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness.

     

    BIOLOGIST 1-3 – HUNTER EDUCATION / MONROE

     

    Biologist 1-3 – Hunter Education Program. This position is responsible for the implementation and instruction of hunter education, general conservation, outdoor skills, and shooting sports education programs in the assigned parishes. The incumbent recruits, trains, and coordinates a network of volunteer hunter education and shooting sports instructors to offer related public programs. The incumbent is responsible for direct supervision of one student worker. Frequent night and weekend work is required. Unavoidable hazards include working with firearms of all types, sharp objects such as knives and occasional use of watercraft and all-terrain vehicles. Physical demands include lifting boxes of educational material, monitors, displays and shooting equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

    Job Duties

    Delivers Conservation Education Programs:Implements and instructs hunter education, general conservation, and outdoor skills programs across assigned parishes in Northeast Louisiana, primarily from the Monroe office.

     

    + Manages Volunteer Instructors:Recruits, trains, and coordinates a network of volunteer instructors to support hunter education and shooting sports programs offered to the public.

    + Coordinates Educational Outreach:Plans and schedules hunter education and wildlife education classes to meet certification demands and ensure accessibility across the region.

    + Provides Public Presentations:Conducts basic to advanced presentations on topics including wildlife resources, conservation practices, resource management, department initiatives, and outdoor safety.

    + Leads Outdoor Instructional Activities:Serves as an instructor at outdoor camps, workshops, and special events, teaching a range of outdoor and shooting skills to diverse audiences.

    + Handles Physical and Safety Demands:Performs duties requiring physical exertion, including lifting equipment up to 50 lbs; operates firearms, knives, ATVs, and watercraft, with frequent night and weekend work.

    Compensation: The maximum salary for the highest level of this position, Biologist 3, is $ $84,136.00 annually.
