Job Details Nurse Manager Responsibilities: Responsible and accountable for planning, directing, and evaluating patient care on a 24-hour basis. Establishes daily staffing patterns on all shifts. Establishes staffing needs based on patient acuity levels. Develops Four Week Time Sheet in a timely fashion, reflecting adequate daily staffing. Collaborates with Nursing Administration to obtain staff to cover needs. Approves or denies requests for revision of schedules based on staffing, and informs staff member of decision. Plans for effective delivery of patient care, matching patient acuity with available resources. Prioritizes patients’ needs. Assigns available staff daily based on patient needs. Interviews prospective staff in conjunction with Clinical Director. Plans orientation & integration of new staff in conjunction with Nursing Education Dept. Selects preceptor for new employee in conjunction with Nursing Education Dept. Reviews anecdotal notes, competency checklist from Nursing Education Dept. at end of formal/classroom orientation. Implements clinical orientation of new employees, matching Skills Assessment with specific unit objectives. Supports and guides preceptors together with Nursing Education Dept. Evaluates new employee by using Performance Appraisal Tool as a guide and by making Clinical Director aware of achievements and/or problems of new employee. Completes Performance Appraisal at end of probationary period and again at end of extended probationary period. Provides for economical use of resources on own unit and participates in budget planning and cost control with the Clinical Director. Identifies resources needed for effective operation of unit. Monitors use of equipment and supplies and maintains adequate stock of supplies. Involves staff in effective methods of cost containment. Implements and maintains improved procedures for reducing costs. Participates in the monthly review of recurrent expenditures and staffing budget with Clinical Director. Provides formal evaluations of staff members based on their position description. Sets short and long-term goals with staff members. Develops plan for goal attainment. Provides periodic evaluation of progress. Reviews sick time on a quarterly basis and counsels staff if needed. Facilitates attendance at In-service Education, Continuing Education, and Community Programs in order to foster individual growth and role expansion. Plans unit participation in performance improvement activities in conjunction with Clinical Director. Informs staff of what reviews are needed. Implements review. Reports back to staff the results of review. Plans and implements corrective action with staff. Evaluates resolution with Clinical Director. Communicates with other departments to coordinate patient care using resources available. Conducts regular monthly staff meetings to discuss relevant information. Meets with staff on all shifts. Maintains minutes of this meeting on the patient care unit for staff information. Participates actively in multidisciplinary rounds. Supports administrative policies and procedures through discussion with staff. Provides feedback from staff to Nursing Administration. Maintains unit records and reports. Reports unit status and significant occurrences to Clinical Director. Reports unit needs appropriately. Submits requisitions for supplies, work orders, etc., on time (on scheduled day, at start of day, during the day shift). Reports to Clinical Director any delays in obtaining supplies or work completed. Establishes and maintains professional relationship with patients, families, medical staff, administration, support staff, educational affiliations, and other colleges. Serves as a resource person and provide guidance to ANCC & staff. Serves as a professional role model. Evaluates effectiveness of policies & procedures for the functioning of the unit. Makes change recommendations to the Clinical Director. Participates in, and involves staff in, research process on unit (i.e., Performance Improvement). Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional and personal growth. Demonstrates ability to set objectives, plan for attainment, and assess progress. Serves on hospital and nursing committees. Participates in professional organizations and groups. Attends professional education programs, formal and informal, at least twice a year. Plans ways to solve problems and to make improvements in the delivery of patient care in collaboration with the Clinical Director. Solves problems for the purpose of improving patient care. Evaluates problem resolution with Clinical Director. Provides care that reflects an understanding of individual, cultural, and religious diversities and needs as well as recognition of patient rights. Maintains professional development. Evaluates own practice in relation to professional practice standards, relevant statutes, and regulations. Participates in ongoing educational activities related to professional issues. Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and team members. Maintains a positive and supportive attitude toward the mission and goals of Catholic Health Services. *Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Current New York State RN License required. BLS and ACLS required. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Critical Care required. Salary Range USD $134,000.00 - USD $168,000.00 /Yr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
