Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a Aircraft Worker (Title 32) (Permanent), Position Description Number D0487000 and is part of the VA AASF, National Guard. Responsibilities As an Aircraft Worker (Title 32), WG-8852-08, you will perform the below duties: Accomplishes a variety of repairs on military aircraft. Repair work includes removing, cleaning, reinstalling or replacing defective parts, accessories and components such as worn gaskets, couplings, fittings, bad actuators, accumulators, and gauges, sections of corroded fuel and oil lines, worn cable pulleys, frayed sparkplug cables, and burned-out landing lights. Makes adjustments and settings such as cable tension, seat travel and other connections. Locates worn, dirty or poorly adjusted parts or components through visual check. Uses common hand tools such appliers, wrenches, screwdrivers to complete repair work. Assists a higher-grade mechanic in completing more complicated and detailed repair work. This would include removing and installing engines, rotor heads, transmissions, etc. Assists in making adjustments to controls, cable riggings, rudder pedals, etc. Assists in performing functional checks and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include daily inspections, pre and post flight checks, fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, etc. Inspects for oil, fuel or hydraulic leaks, cut or broke lines, loose panels, etc. Services aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, etc. Launches and recovers aircraft. May be required to perform such additional duties as firefighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NOTE: Qualifications are based on breadth/level of experience. WHO CAN APPLY: GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PV1 - E6/SGG) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Air National Guard Military Technician Program. GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PV1 - E6/SGG), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period. GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard. Military Grades: Enlisted Personnel (E1/PV1 - E6/SGG) GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience or training assisting a higher-grade mechanic in accomplishing maintenance and repair of both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-08 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as: Experience removing, cleaning, reinstalling or replacing defective parts, accessories and components such as worn gaskets, couplings, fittings, bad actuators, accumulators, and gauges, sections of corroded fuel and oil lines, worn cable pulleys, frayed sparkplug cables, and burned-out landing lights. Experience assisting a higher-grade mechanic in completing more complicated and detailed repair work. Experience inspecting for oil, fuel or hydraulic leaks, cut or broke lines, loose panels, etc. Experience performing such additional duties as firefighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc. Education Additional Information If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)).
