    Position Summary

    This member serves in Garfield County developing, strengthening and delivering youth development programs emphasizing outdoor education, natural resources, and horticulture using STEAM educational techniques in out-of-school time settings to ensure that youth (ages 5-18) have the tools and opportunities that will lead to graduation from high school and preparation for career readiness while developing their interest in STEAM .

    Term of Service / Time Commitment:

    This is a quarter-time AmeriCorps national and community service position requiring, at a minimum, a total of 450 hours during the term (approximately 25 hours/week). The position begins August 11, 2025, and ends December 12, 2025. The member will to develop a schedule with leadership that ensures enough opportunity to meet the minimum number of service hours.

    Training and Support Provided:

    Members receive significant training and experience in community engagement, project implementation, leadership, diverse populations, and more. Up to 20% (or 180 hours) of total hours served may be spent in applicable approved trainings. Members will be supervised and supported by Dani Wesolowski, as well as by Melinda Macpherson, RamCorps Program Manager,[email protected]. The cohort of members serving throughout the region will act as additional resources and support for each other.

    Location and Service Conditions:

    This position is based at the Garfield County Extension Office (1001 Railroad Avenue. Rifle, CO, 81650). This position will serve in schools, libraries, parks or recreation center settings with active children.

    Program Benefits:

    + A living allowance of approximately $730.00 for quarter-time members (450 hours) per pay period on a bi-weekly cycle for an approximate total of $6,570.00 for the term of service. Taxes are deducted and the living allowance is distributed by direct deposit to the member.

    + An education award of $1,956.35 is earned upon successful completion of term of service.

    + It is possible to temporarily postpone repayment of qualified student loans through forbearance while serving as an AmeriCorps member.

    + Mileage reimbursement for travel to required trainings and days of service

    + Access to ongoing professional development trainings and resources through the university

    + Experience serving with professionals in the field with on the ground training

    + The member will develop experience serving with institutions of higher education (Colorado State University). They will also serve with community partners in Garfield County.

    Position Minimum Qualifications

    + At least 18 years old at start of service.

    + High school diploma or G.E.D.

    + Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.

    + Able to pass a National Service Criminal History Check (state, FBI , and National Sex Offender Public Website checks) per 45 CFR 2540.202

    + Wear official AmeriCorps identity items such as name tag, T-shirts, and lapel pins during all AmeriCorps service.

    + Be willing to provide direct services, strengthen the community or build the capacity of the organization as described in the position description.

    + Cultural sensitivity and ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse population.

    + Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    + Computer skills: familiarity with MS Office 365, especially Outlook and SharePoint, and Zoom.

    + Ability to serve independently with minimal supervision.

    + Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Have completed some college coursework, college degree, or equivalent work experience or background.

    + Be dedicated to community service.

    + Experience providing youth educational programming in a classroom setting.

    + Hands-on experience in the areas of outdoor education, natural resources, horticulture, or other related field.

    + Knowledge of developmental youth milestones and characteristics.

    + Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    + Ability and willingness to serve in a team setting and to promote collaboration.

    + Ability and willingness to serve in a position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

    + Ability to use a computer for e-mail communication, online reporting (monthly time reports, quarterly impact data), and preparing monthly impact statements or semi-annual reflections.

    + Adaptable, practical, energetic, and intrinsically motivated.

    The primary goal of this service opportunity is to provide youth exposure to outdoor education, natural resources, and horticulture using STEAM educational techniques.Responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks outlined below:

     

    + Plan, coordinate, lead, deliver, and evaluate educational natural resources, outdoor education, and horticulture using STEAM educational techniques.

    + Recruit community volunteers to assist with programs. Serve as a mentor to volunteers by providing guidance as appropriate.

    + Incorporate and implement educational enrichment activities, service-learning events, community partnership development, and volunteer recruitment within the programming framework of the host sites.

    + Collect, document, and report quantitative and qualitative impact data for quarterly progress reports and monthly impact statements.

    + Manage relationships with partner sites. Accurately and professionally discuss with community partners and volunteers the objectives of the AmeriCorps program, positive youth development, and site-specific objectives.

    + Meet regularly with site supervisor to discuss programming topics and issues. Participate in performance reviews with the site supervisor.
