Position Summary:

Provides Radiation Oncology Department with physics services to ensure a high level of radiation treatment quality and patient/staff safety. Participates in radiation equipment/software quality assurance program, treatment planning procedures, brachytherapy and special procedures, ensuring radiation equipment performance/ maintenance, radiation safety and staff training. Works with guidance and supervision concentrating on one therapeutic modality.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in establishment of radiation beam characteristics for clinical usage.

2. Calibrates radiation therapy equipment, performs quality assurance checks, and coordinates with service engineering to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs.

3. Consults with clinical and medical staff on simulation and patient setups, and treatment planning.

4. Provides ongoing oversight of quality and safety of patient treatment delivery.

5. Provides treatment planning (external beam, brachytherapy) and performs quality assurance checks.

Qualifications:

Required:

Master’s or PhD degree in medical physics or related discipline.

Eligible for certification in therapeutic medical physics from American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification from Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM). Obtains certification within three years of employment as medical physicist I.

Two years of prior work experience as a medical physicist or medical physics resident in full-service radiation therapy center.
