    Overview

The Senior Business Development Analyst plays a critical role in driving strategic growth, development, financial decisions, and investments for the Choctaw Nation by independently evaluating and analyzing business opportunities, often including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), start-ups, and operational decisions. This position performs comprehensive financial modeling, market research, due diligence, and risk assessments to support decision-making on financial strategies and investments ranging from $1M to $50M+. Deal sizes and complexities vary, generally increasing with experience and proven success. You will deliver data-driven recommendations, develop business plans, and collaborate cross-functionally to align with the tribe’s financial goals.

Success in this role means confidently managing the full M&A lifecycle for assigned opportunities, producing robust business plans, and analyzing business opportunities to assist leadership in making decisions on whether to decline or pursue—balancing speed, accuracy, and strategic insight.

    Key Responsibilities

+ Develop, maintain, and refine advanced financial models (DCF, FCF, ROI, IRR, NPV) to evaluate investments, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives that support long-term planning and ROI analysis.

+ Lead end-to-end M&A processes, including opportunity screening, valuation, deal structuring, risk analysis, and integration planning, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.

+ Conduct market and competitive research to assess feasibility, profitability, and strategic fit of potential business ventures, delivering clear recommendations to senior leadership.

+ Perform rigorous financial and operational due diligence on prospective investments to evaluate health, performance, and alignment with tribal priorities.

+ Monitor portfolio performance metrics, analyze capital efficiency, and recommend strategies to optimize returns and reduce risks.

+ Create executive-level reports, dashboards, and presentations that effectively communicate insights and support decision-making.

+ Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders—such as Executive and Senior Directors, Member Services—and external partners including business owners, investors, and tribal members to gather information and align on initiatives.

+ Drive continuous process improvements and analytics enhancements; support ad hoc analyses and high-impact projects as needed.

+ Achieve professional growth through certifications such as FMVA and CPA with organizational support.

    Success Metrics (6–12 Months)

+ Independently analyze and present business opportunities, including complete business plans that justify pursuing or declining projects.

+ Successfully manage several business opportunities, developments, financial decisions, and investment opportunities with varying values and complexities from screening through recommendation (generally $1M -$5M+ deals for incumbent analysts).

+ Establish strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and leadership, building a reliable pipeline of vetted opportunities.

    Performance Metrics

+ Timely and accurate delivery of comprehensive business plans and financial models.

+ Successful completion of M&A lifecycle phases with well-supported recommendations.

+ Quality of market and feasibility analyses influencing strategic decisions.

+ Effective collaboration with internal and external partners, supporting seamless deal flow.

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or a quantitative field.

+ 3–7 years of progressive experience in business development, financial analysis, or related roles with direct exposure to M&A or strategic investments.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with experience using financial modeling tools and BI software.

+ Strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

    Preferred:

+ MBA or relevant advanced degree.

+ Professional certifications such as FMVA, CPA, or CIA.

+ Experience working in complex, dynamic environments with shifting priorities.

+ Prior exposure to strategic decision making and analysis for business operations, finance, accounting, tribal government, and services.
