    Overview

     

    This position provides legal counsel on state regulatory matters impacting the company’s utility operations and broader business interests. The role, **which reports to Senior Counsel,** supports the development and execution of legal and regulatory strategies, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and contributes to the advancement of the company’s objectives in the highly regulated energy sector.

     

    This position will be located in Louisville, KY.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide legal guidance on a variety of state regulatory issues, including rate cases, resource planning, infrastructure projects, service obligations, and compliance with utility commission rules.

    + Assist in representing the company before state public utility commissions, administrative agencies, and in local, state, and federal courts as needed.

    + Collaborate with regulatory, government affairs, finance, operations, and executive teams to shape filings, testimony, and strategy for regulatory proceedings.

    + Advise senior management on legal risks and opportunities related to evolving energy policies and utility regulatory frameworks.

    + Draft, review, and negotiate legal and regulatory documents, including tariffs, settlement agreements, compliance filings, contracts, and memoranda.

    + Manage outside counsel relationships for regulatory and litigation matters, including selecting counsel, monitoring performance, and controlling costs.

    + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and policy developments affecting the energy and utility industry and provide timely analysis to stakeholders.

    + Represent the company in industry associations, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory forums.

    + Support other corporate legal matters as assigned, including transactional, governance, and compliance issues.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications

    + Juris Doctorate (J.D.)

    + 3-7 years of relevant experience practicing law

    + Specialized knowledge and experience in one or more major areas of relevant law or legal practice

    + Admitted to the Kentucky Bar or eligibility and willingness to become admitted promptly

    + Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across business units and with regulators

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Graduate from a high quality, accredited law school

    + Excellent academic credentials

    + At least 3 years of training at a well-recognized, prominent law firm

    + Knowledge of and experience advising companies in the energy and utility business, or general experience in administrative law or litigation with interest in developing utility expertise

    Remote Work

    The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change.
