Job Summary
The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate revenue recognition and project costing in a complex Engineering and Manufacturing environment. The Senior Project Accountant must have broad experience in general accounting and a strong understanding of GAAP, including an understanding of ASC 606 Contract Revenue Recognition. The Senior Project Accountant will support the creation and maintenance of revenue forecasts, perform margin analysis, review Work-In-Process, and provide insights to management regarding project performance. This role partners closely with Project Management, Operations and the broader Finance team to support execution of company financial goals. We are looking for someone with a strong desire to develop, lead, and continuously improve processes and can play a key role in supporting the company’s rapid growth and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Job Duties and Responsibilities
+ Perform revenue recognition analysis in compliance with company policies and accounting standards
+ Track and analyze project costs, providing margin and project health insights to leadership
+ Conduct WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting and analysis to maintain accurate project financials
+ Perform deferred and unbilled revenue analysis to ensure appropriate revenue recognition
+ Support revenue forecasting for ongoing and upcoming projects
+ Manage commission accounting, ensuring timely and accurate commission payments based on project billings
+ Prepare financial reports for project managers and leadership to support strategic decision-making
+ Assist with month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations related to projects
+ Support ERP project accounting module integration and enhancements
+ Partner with business leaders to understand operational processes and identify potential issues
+ Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy and efficiency
+ Cover other team members and complete other special projects as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
+ Minimum of 7 years accounting experience, preferably with a project / revenue focus
+ Experience in Project-Based Engineering & Manufacturing organization
+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including lookups and advanced formulas
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to partner cross-functionally
+ Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines
+ Strong analytical thinking, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Additional Skills and Experience
+ Epicor experience; FloQast experience
+ Power BI experience helpful
+ Prior experience in percentage of completion accounting preferred
