The primary duties of University of Washington Athletic Department coaches are to teach, instruct, educate and impart knowledge to student-athletes regarding the rules and fundamentals of their respective sport with the goal to continuously improve and achieve athletic excellence.
This position will report to the Head Coach and will assist in the successful operation of the women’s rowing program, including but not limited to:
• Care of the women’s rowing fleet, equipment and venue as detailed below, trailer driver/boat mechanic for rowing competitions.
• Assist with coaching, training and selection of student-athletes as determined by the head coach, including data management of information collected from rowing and telemetry equipment.
Detailed Rigger Duties and Responsibilities
1. Repair, maintain and care for all rowing related equipment including but not limited to shells, oars, coxswain equipment, rowing ergometers, coaching launches and motors, truck and trailers, including fiberglass repair, detail painting, electrical wiring and small motor repair.
2. Responsible for the course set-up and tear down related to any women’s rowing practices/competition at the University of Washington.
3. Order parts and equipment as approved by the Head Coach and work with the Director of Operations to maintain appropriate and accurate inventory of all rowing-related equipment.
4. Rig boats and oars ensuring all boats, oars and equipment are in race ready condition.
5. Complete repairs and maintain the dock and rowing site in conjunction with the men’s rowing team.
6. Develop and maintain an off-season maintenance program including but not limited to an equipment replacement and maintenance strategy and including the cleaning of all parts of the boats and repair and replacement of parts.
7. Transport equipment, including racing hulls, to training sites, competitions and to or from the manufacturer. Set up off-site training locations and serve as boat mechanic for off-site competitions and training.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Rowing Head Coach, or their designee.
9. Work with staff toward goal of excellence in all aspects of Washington Rowing. Represent the University of Washington, the Athletic Department and the Rowing program with the highest professional and ethical behavior. Prepare department reports and maintain records as required. Other duties as assigned.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of successful coaching experience at the collegiate or elite level, or two years of successful experience coaching junior rowers, or two years of competing at the Senior National Team level.

Additional Requirements:
• Proven ability to relate to student-athletes.
• Knowledge of and experience with trailer towing.
• Basic knowledge of inventory control, specifically expense tracking.
• Ability to make sound decisions and work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
• Excellent time management ability, detail oriented with strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Must maintain flexibility to work overtime, occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays for repairs, and travel for multiple days as needed for competition and training.
• Experience with fiberglass/carbon fiber repairs.
• Ability to perform various duties related to carpentry, mechanical repair, and detail painting.
Conditions of Employment
• Valid state issued driver’s license: Requires local and interstate travel for rowing competitions and training camps, including overnight stays.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and handling of large and heavy equipment. Ability and willingness to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• May be exposed to chemicals (e.g., cleaning agents, lubricants, fuel) in the maintenance of equipment and facilities.
