    Department of Electrical Engineering

     

    The Northwest AI Hub of Microelectronics Commons is a coalition of 44 universities, colleges, companies, and government labs aimed at advancing US technology leadership in electronics. This position will be responsible for executing the strategic vision and the budget developed in partnership with the senior leadership (Faculty and Executive Directors). This will require anticipating project milestones, such as major reports, conferences, and site visits, and preparing accordingly. This position will have several direct reports supporting administration/finance/communications, and dotted line reports for project engineers, and technical staff at Stanford Nanofabrication Facility, Stanford Nano Shared Facilities and nano@stanford that would need to be coordinated to deliver on the Commons objectives.

     

    In support of the Microelectronics Commons research projects, this position will oversee the logistics of technology and research materials exchanges between nanofacilities of Stanford, Berkeley, UC Davis, and the facilities of nearly 40 industry partners in the Commons. This will require coordination of service agreements, IP, and technical resources across the hub.

     

    The role of this position is to ensure that the NW-AI Hub complies with University policies as well as the contract terms of the DoD award. This would include establishing administrative policies for membership, IP agreements, and subcontracts for the Hub.

     

    This is a unique opportunity to reshape electronics research and research infrastructure not only at Stanford, but with our partners in the Bay Area and across the Northwest and Pacific.

     

    A graduate degree in science or engineering and experience in an academic setting is preferred.

    In this role, you will:

    + Provide strategic planning for their own work group; participate with senior managers in higher level strategic planning. Communicate operational objectives and assignments and delegate to staff.

    + Manage the daily operations of an assigned area(s) which include recruiting, hiring, training, developing, evaluating and setting priorities of staff; coordinate business, technical, and educational activities for direct reports.

    + Oversee interdepartmental activities, projects and efforts by applying advanced technical and professional knowledge. Serve as the initial managerial escalation point for problems from clients and other staff.

    + Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources. Oversee preparation of periodic financial and technical reports and operating plans.

    + Interface with clients to determine project requirements. Establish service level agreements with clients.

    + Monitor scientific, engineering and/or technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend for adoption and implementation.

    + Communicate and implement policies, procedures, best practices, recommendations and guidelines in compliance with established University administrative policies and procedures.

    Education & Experience (Required):

    Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required):

    + Experience leading or overseeing the work of technical staff.

    + Understanding of relevant scientific, engineering, or technical disciplines.

    + Ability to problem solve.

    + Ability to synthesize and articulate technical and scientific methodologies, specifications, and information.

    + Experience leading scientific, engineering, or technical research projects or programs.

    + Knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.

    + Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.

    + Strong customer relationship and consensus building skills.

    + Ability to influence and establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment.

    + Ability to resolve issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives in a collaborative culture.

    Education & Experience (Desired):

    An advanced degree in the physical sciences or engineering. Experience in process or integration engineering in a research setting as well as industrial. Familiarity with the electronics supply chain, from design to fabrication, packaging, testing, and systems.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Desired):

    + Ability and experience in working with industry.

    Physical Requirements:

    + Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work, use a telephone and use light/ fine grasping.

    + Occasionally write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

    + Rarely stand, walk, sort, and file paperwork or parts.

    Working Conditions:

    + May work extended hours, evenings or weekends.

    Pay Range:

    The expected pay range for this position is $159,889 to $191,732 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate including but not limited to geographic location, knowledge, skills and abilities, relevant education, depth and breadth of experience, performance; as well as other business and organization needs such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the minimum qualifications, departmental budget availability, and market and internal equity across the unit, department and reporting relationships.
