Amerlux, a pioneer in the lighting industry for over 35 years, is seeking a Design Engineer, with 2 to 3 years of experience to join our Engineering team in our Oakland, NJ office. This position is on-site at our office in Oakland, NJ four days per week and remote one day per week.
The Design Engineer is a part of the Design Engineering Team in a fast-paced and growing global Lighting industry. The position reports directly to Director of Engineering, Point Source and Exterior working closely with the Design/R&D Team to execute assigned New Product Development and Product Variants, Variant Projects and Value Engineering Projects from concept to production.
Job Responsibilities Include:
+ Produce part drawing, project proposal drawings per specification to drafting standards.
+ Build prototypes for design development, samples for customer approvals and samples for lab testing with minimal supervision. UL Listing (working with R&D lab and UL liaison).
+ Product Documentation including: Bills of Material Structure; working with Engineering Administrator to develop models in Oracle ERP system; assembly documentation; installation sheets and help generate specification data sheet.
+ Work closely with customer service on the projects.
+ Design concept development from design brief or variant data form or project specifications and carry all the way through to production.
+ Complete value engineering assignments to assist Company in meeting cost savings and product enhancement goals. Assist with first article inspection and approval process.
+ Other duties as deemed priority and appropriate by the Company and management.
Skills and Work Experience To Include:
+ B.S. Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering, preferred and/or equivalent work/design experience.
+ Fundamental of Lighting or Lighting application courses by IES is plus.
+ 2 - 3 years engineering experience.
+ Minimum 1 years at a lighting/LED manufacturer.
+ Fluent in 2D and 3D design software: Autodesk Inventor 3D required.
+ MS Word, Excel Adobe and CNC Software knowledge a plus.
+ Ability to read and understand Architectural drawings and plans.
+ Required knowledge of sheet metal, die cast, plastic mold and extruded part design.
+ Understanding of light sources, ballast/drivers and lighting components.
+ Understanding of ceiling systems and architectural construction; LED experience a plus.
+ Good communication skills required - effective interaction/collaboration with resources, vendors, partners, and designers locally and other global locations
+ Detail oriented with excellent problem solving skills.
+ Able to work with multiple departments, including production, purchasing, quotations, customer support and product management.
The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $85,000 annually, based on candidates skills and experiences.
