The Department of Oceanography is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Research Coordinator to join our innovative research team. This position plays a vital role in supporting a range of scientific projects that demand rigorous data acquisition, advanced analysis, and timely dissemination of results.
The Research Coordinator will provide essential technical support, performing semi-skilled tasks that require adaptability, critical thinking, and problem-solving. A key responsibility includes contributing to the lab’s capacity to process complex datasets, integrate field measurements with modeling frameworks, and meet important reporting and publication deadlines.Working under general supervision, the successful candidate will be evaluated based on the effective and timely completion of assigned tasks. A significant component of this role involves supporting field campaigns, where the Research Coordinator will help ensure methodological consistency and minimize data gaps.

Opportunities to contribute:
+ Assists in collecting samples and measurement data from experiments.
+ Assists in performing analysis and tests.
+ Assists senior staff members in conducting field experiments.
+ Manages the participant (subject) pool by recruiting, screening, and maintaining records on research participants.
+ Prepares and sets up research sessions including drafting protocol, coordinating with IT support.
+ Maintains lab supplies and other research equipment.
+ Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness.
+ Coordinates and oversees the daily activities in a laboratory, including staff support and quality control.
+ Assembles and operates technical equipment.
+ Produces scientific journal articles and presentations for publication and presentation.
Salary: $17.44 an hour
Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Three years of related experience
+ Ability to lift and/or move heavy weight objects with or without assistances be needed.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess :
+ Oceanography degree or completion of relevant coursework in physical oceanography, data analysis, and advanced math.
+ Experience with oceanographic research.
+ Experience working with large eddy-covariance data sets
+ Skilled in MATLAB Programming
+ Understanding of boundary layer turbulence
+ Knowledge of the physical characteristics of the coastal ocean including waves, tides, and currents.
+ Ability to work with vectors and differential equations
+ Some knowledge of machine learning is preferred
+ Proficiency in technical computing on either Mac or Windows platforms require
+ Ability to effectively communicate scientific concepts through writing and presentations
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
