EMT-Basic SUMMARY: Provides emergency health care services to patients per local protocol under the direction of local medical control and the EMS Director by performing patient care and other duties, as assigned, in support of the District’s overall mission of quality service and patient care. EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of EMT-Basic training from an accredited college or technical school . CERTIFICATES, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: Certification as an EMT-Basic through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Certification as a National Registered EMT-Basic or working toward certification is recommended but not required. Current, valid,certification in BLS for Healthcare CPR is required. Must have a valid, current Texas Class C (or higher) driver’s license and acceptable driving record. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to read, analyze, and follow protocols, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations, and the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Verbal communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, family members, customers, groups of managers, and the general public. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement common to medicine, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and ability to compute medication calculations. Ability to efficiently use a computer to enter patient care reports and use other software. Ability to read a map and follow directions. Ability to safely drive an ambulance or other vehicle. EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of EMT-Intermediate/Advanced EMT training from an accredited college or technical school and, State of Texas EMT-Intermediate/Advanced EMT Certification Required. CERTIFICATES, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: Certification as a EMT-Intermediate/Advanced EMT through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Must have a valid, current BLS for Healthcare CPR certification. Must have a valid, current Texas Class C (minimum) driver’s license. ACLS, and PEPP and/or PALS certification is recommended but not mandatory. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations, and the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals required. Verbal communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public also required. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and ability to compute medication calculations also required. EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of Paramedic training from an accredited college or technical school and, State of Texas Paramedic Certification Required. CERTIFICATES, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: Certification as a Paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services, and valid, current ACLS, and PEPP and/or PALS certification. Certification as a National Registered Paramedic or working toward certification also recommended, but not required. Must have a valid BLS for Healthcare CPR certification. Must have a valid, current Texas Class C (or higher) driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
