Summary The purpose of the position is to assist clinical teams within the Division of Public Health including, but not limited to, Mobile Health, Teen Clinic & Diabetes in providing clinical services to patients, individuals, families & communities within the Service Unit facilities, in the home, and/or surrounding community areas with a variety of tasks involving direct patient care/ services in healthcare provision education, case management, program marketing, quality management & controls. Responsibilities Assists and carries a wide variety of health care to a wide variety of people and clients with multiple health care issues and concerns in various settings such as hospital, outpatient clinic, mobile units, virtual platforms, schools, chapter house, businesses, grocery and convenient store, and other community settings. Measures height, weight, and vital signs; uses waived point of care testing and other established screening modalities to determine health status at time of visit; gives vaccinations. Obtains biological samples for laboratory testing including phlebotomy (drawing blood). Provides education on a wide variety of topics to patients who may have multiple health issues and concerns. Performs specified screenings in the clinic, during community events, and at other community facilities to determine health status and refer patients to appropriate health care providers. Participates as a team member with public health professionals and others to assist with program planning, management, evaluation and reporting of public health-led community and development projects. Uses available information technology systems for communication, data collection, marketing and reporting. Under the guidance of the medical provider/team lead, coordinates and conducts periodic program data quality checks according to established quality standards and assesses rates of patients accessing preventive care services and completing recommended screening according to quality standards and national recommendations/guidelines. Assist with managing supplies and equipment inventory, including supply ordering, monitoring and storage to ensure adequate amounts of supplies and equipment are available to provide safe and optimal-quality patient care services. Flexibility in duty hours is sometimes required to accommodate activities with assignments. Incumbent may be required to work rotating shifts, outside of regular business hours, or weekends. Incumbent may be called in to cover unexpected absences within his/her regularly assigned work unit to ensure there is minimal interruptions of direct or support healthcare services. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0640-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Assisting medical provider in interviewing and educating patients about disease process. Explaining preventative care plans and disease care plans. Assisting in Division of Public Health events. Completing recommended screenings. Using information technology systems for communication, data collection, marketing and reporting. Assisting with disease investigations. Researching health education topics and presenting findings. Conducting homes visits with others. Creating bulletin displays, pamphlets and presentation materials related to public health. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0640-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Guiding individuals and groups in healthy lifestyle choices. Performing specified screenings to determine health status and refer patients to appropriate healthcare providers. Assisting with program planning, management, evaluation and reporting. Attending patient care meetings with Providers. Providing health education/promotion interventions. Developing monthly activity schedules and maintains delivery of services. Assisting with managing supplies and equipment inventory. Assisting with reporting of public health-led community projects. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0640-08:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Conducting health care interventions for people with a variety of health issues. Creating and updating systems to track supplies and equipment and patient educational materials. Developing basic data collection processes. Providing education on a variety of topics to patients. Performing specified screenings in the clinic, community events and community facilities. Assisting in development and implementation of plans. Participating in quality monitoring of performance improvement activities. Scheduling and conducting in-service training and presentations on health topics. Creating individualized preventive health plans. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Applicants must be fluent in the use of the Navajo Language, including the ability to translate from Navajo to English and vice versa. IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION - SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Applicants must possess and provide proof of certification as a Medical Assistant-Certified. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Government housing is not available. There are no incentives available. This position has promotion potential to the GS-08 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval. Promotion to the next higher grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
