    The Position

    Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.

     

    Incumbents administer one or more programs or a major component of a large, complex program which affects a more targeted number of customers or clients; revise, recommend, and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements.

     

    The Nevada Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is seeking to fill a Program Officer 2 located in Carson City or Las Vegas. This Program Officer 2 will serve as the Communications Program Specialist. This position will support and maintain the state's emergency communication systems, ensuring effective coordination among public safety agencies. This role oversees the operation and maintenance of critical technologies, including two-way radios, satellite phones, video conferencing, IP-based systems, and the audio/visual infrastructure at the Nevada Emergency Operations Center. The specialist manages key programs such as the Nevada Statewide Warning System, represents Nevada in the Nationwide Warning System, and serves as the state's point of contact for the FEMA National Radio System. Additional duties include leading the Auxiliary Communications Program by supervising trained volunteer radio operators, supporting the Public Alert and Warning System, assisting with radio programming, and maintaining the Nevada Shared Radio System. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

     

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment and one year of professional experience in planning, coordinating and administering a program which included interpretation of laws and regulations; development of program policy and procedures; development and implementation of program performance standards and objectives for providing services; and development and implementation of eligibility requirements; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Program Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Special Requirements

    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

     

    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
