Harborview Medical Center - The Hobson Clinic** has an outstanding opportunity for a **Peer Support Specialist** **WORK SCHEDULE
+ 100%FTE
+ Days **POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
+ Work with a team that includes an addiction medicine physician and program coordinator to provide much-needed care for stimulant use disorder
+ Help develop and shape a new program for the clinic
+ Receive training in contingency management (offering incentives for meeting goals around stimulant use) and motivational interviewing **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION**
The Hobson Clinic, a partnership between Harborview Medical Center and the Downtown Emergency Services Center (DESC), provides medical and behavioral care to community members in South Seattle. Many of the clinic’s clients are unhoused, and most face challenges like mental illness or substance use disorders. The clinic is launching a new program to support people with stimulant (methamphetamine, cocaine) use disorders. This includes care like contingency management, peer support, harm reduction, medications for stimulant use disorder, and helping people access medical care.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Assist in developing a new program to treat stimulant use disorder
+ Help clients set goals for recovery and guide them in meeting those goals
+ Provide contingency management services
+ Help clients attend medical appointments at the clinic and build trust with clinical team members
+ Be a role model for overcoming challenges related to substance use disorders, sharing personal experiences when appropriate
+ Lead support and education groups for clients
+ Work with other programs at the clinic as part of the treatment team
+ Keep accurate clinical and billing records in the clinic’s electronic system **REQUIREMENTS**
+ High school graduation or equivalent and two years’ experience in a behavioral health organization or consumer/peer run organization
+ AND Peer Counselor Certification (Department of Behavioral Health and Recovery) OR Community Health Worker Certification (Department of Health)
+ AND Within 7 days of employment and depending on job requirements: must apply for Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration/License with the State of WA (Dept of Health), and have obtained this credential within 60 days of hire (RCW18.19.210)
+ Counselor Registration from the State of Washington with 60 days of hire
+ Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration **ABOUT HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER**
