    Department: Sleep Center

     

    Shift: FT 36hr 7:00pm-7:00am Wednesday-Friday

    A Polysomnographic Technologist (also known as a sleep technologist) at Novant Health is a certified professional (RPSGT) who plays a vital role in diagnosing and evaluating sleep disorders.

     

    Contribute to Novant Health's mission of improving the health of communities, one person at a time, by providing high-quality imaging services.

     

    • What You’ll Do:

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Conduct sleep studies — set up polysomnography equipment overnight (wired with electrodes/sensors to monitor brain waves, breathing, oxygen, heart rate, and more)

    • Prepare, calibrate & maintain equipment — ensure sensors, airway pressure masks, and other devices work correctly

    • Monitor patients throughout the night — observe, document events like apnea episodes or cardiac irregularities, and adjust equipment as needed .

    • Score and analyze clinical data — identify sleep stages, respiratory, cardiac events, and prepare reports for physician review

    • Ensure a safe, patient‑focused environment — adhere to safety protocols, practice infection control, and provide patient comfort

    • Support teamwork and diversity — Novant emphasizes team engagement, inclusion, and community involvement in delivering quality care

    • What We’re Looking For:

    + Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.

    + Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a sleep center, required.

    + Licensure/Certification: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, required.

    + Additional Skills (required): Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing; good communication skills, medical terminology, previous experience with computers, manual dexterity and the capacity to deal with visual concepts; initiative and judgment to proceed with work without constant supervision; high degree of patience and understanding in dealing with unusual situations; ability to work flexible nighttime schedule; basic ECG recognition; general understanding of the concepts of polysomnography.
