Job Summary
Salary to commensurate with qualifications
The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.
This position has an anticipated work schedule ofSunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday, 6:30am-2:30pm, 8:00am-4:00pm, or 2:00pm-10:00pm, subject to change.

Classifies inmates in detentions facilities. Determines housing assignments for inmates based off of their classification level and behavior. Counsels and assists inmates with segregation (enemy) problems. Maintains detailed inmate records.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
+ Meets with incoming inmates for purposes of classifying them into appropriate detentions unit. Coordinates with medical and mental health personnel regarding inmates with mental/physical impairments. Enters/purges segregation data into the computer. Performs NCIC/CCIC check on incoming inmates to determine felony/misdemeanor status. Enters data from initial classification questionnaire into computer.
+ Meets with and reviews administrative segregation and protective custody inmates to determine if status is necessary.
+ Reviews incident reports and disciplinary reports to determine if a higher classification level is needed.
+ Places and re-classifies inmates into disciplinary lockdown.
+ Responds to inmate kites (correspondence with staff).
+ Prepares transfers lists for inmates housing moves.
+ Assembles and copies files of inmates transferred to the State Department of Corrections.
+ Communicates with lawyers, family members, bondsmen and outside agencies requesting information on inmates.
+ Processes trusty contracts upon completion by inmates. Calculates trusty time, monitors and schedules inmates to work who are assigned to the Trusty program.
+ Processes Inmate Volunteer contracts, assigns Inmate Volunteers to work assignments and tracks eligibility of commissary compensation.
+ Meets with inmates who have been identified as ADA (American Disabilities Act) inmates by medical/mental health staff to ensure they are aware of programs and resources during initial and monthly visits. Completes reports documenting initial and monthly visits to ensure their ADA requirements are being met.
+ Works with medical and mental health staff to determine appropriate housing for inmates with medical or mental health concerns.
+ Performs various clerical duties, including receiving calls on three incoming lines, computer data entry, filing documents, distributing paperwork, and purging files.
+ Receives daily inmate count in detentions facilities. Prepares statistics for Sheriff regarding total number of inmates, including DOC backlog inmates.
+ Performs 30, 45, 60 and 90-day housing reviews for inmates requiring assessment of housing and re-houses the inmate accordingly.
+ Scans documents into inmates' classification files.
+ Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
+ Ability to use office equipment, including computer, telephone, fax machine and copier.
+ Ability to use NCIC/CCIC system.
+ Ability to effectively interview, classify, counsel and evaluate inmates.
+ Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent education.
+ Minimum two years clerical and data entry experience, preferably in the detentions/law enforcement field.
Licenses/Certificates:
+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
+ Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
+ Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, Tuberculosis testing, and drug screen.
Work Conditions
Duties are performed in a secure detentions facility. Direct exposure to inmates in a highly stressful, closed environment with minimal exposure to windows. Potential exposure to violent inmates, use of foul and disrespectful language, offensive smells, excessive noise, body fluid and airborne pathogens. Shift work, to include weekends and holidays. Sheriff’s Office employees must complete tuberculosis testing as applicable to the specific position prior to job assignment and periodic testing thereafter.
