    Summary The Supply Technician position is located in the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment. Maintains stock and primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Pulls stock and material, replenishes stock inventory, interacts with customers and maintains records on stock levels. Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in a computerized inventory management system. Completes specialty cart preparation and stocking. Informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical resources and shelf life. Communicates with lead or supervisor on any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures. Provides information to customers or external stakeholders regarding medical supplies. Escalates complex or unresolvable issues to the supervisor or more senior staff. Works with customers to resolve supply management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explaining delays, expediting deliveries and resolving problems. Works with clinical and administrative personnel regarding administrative and medical supplies. Ensures data integrity of the inventory management system. Utilizes computerized systems including bar-coding and automated inventory systems for the delivery and inventory control of supplies. Utilizes an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes. Ensures data accuracy in the automated system. Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule. Delivers supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensures supplies and material are delivered in sterile and operational condition. Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled. Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts. Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled. Recommends revisions in stock levels as needed to supply changes to Inventory Management Specialists. Interprets policies, procedures, manual and regulations pertaining to supply/inventory management and federal acquisition systems. Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock. Fills requests for items based on daily schedules of need or on an emergent basis as appropriate. Monitors stock usage in areas of the medical center and makes necessary adjustments. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. If you are qualifying on education, transcripts are required. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to Detail Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Reasoning Technical Competence Technology Application Driving Required: May be directed to travel to all VA HCS and catchment area locations to perform equipment management duties, transferring of equipment and disposal/recycling of equipment. Must possess a valid, state driver's license or commercial driver's license (CDL), as applicable, if required to operate a motor vehicle or commercial vehicle. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
