    New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR, the “Agency”) is the State’s affordable housing agency, with a mission to build, preserve, and protect affordable housing and increase homeownership throughout New York State.

    The SONYMA Mortgage Insurance Fund (“MIF”) promotes the preservation and revitalization of communities across the State of New York by providing insurance on mortgage loans that encourages investment of capital by commercial and public lenders.

     

    The duties listed below will be undertaken under the direct supervision of the Senior Vice President/Director of the MIF.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The MIF’s Vice President of Single-Family Underwriting/Servicing oversees mortgage insurance operations for the MIF’s single family team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

     

    + Supervising, training and directing mortgage insurance underwriters and servicing staff;

    + Evaluating programs and initiatives presented to SONYMA and the MIF regarding risk and viability;

    + Ensuring that loan submissions are underwritten to SONYMA guidelines;

    + Verifying and maintaining all necessary documentation supportive of the Agency's decisions on insurance requests;

    + Working with Agency staff, lenders and outside parties to develop and enhance affordable housing initiatives for first time homebuyers and address other housing issues;

    + Maintaining productive relationships with participating financial institutions and private mortgage insurance industry;

    + Reviewing all project approval requests for the SONYMA set-aside program;

    + Providing all required documentation and information to rating agencies regarding the MIF's single family portfolio;

    + Presenting to various interested parties, agencies and groups, as required;

    + Supervising premium billing and collection, claims processing and payments, and loss mitigation procedures;

    + Maintaining and monitoring servicing database;

    + Providing liaison and ongoing contact with lenders, contract servicers, coinsurers and reinsurers;

    + Establishing and maintaining servicing policies and procedures; and

    + Carrying out such other duties as are necessary to be carried in the MIF, at the discretion of the Senior Vice President/Director.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + A minimum of ten years industry experience;

    + A minimum of five years in a management supervisory role concerning the analysis of appraisals, financial statements and credit reports, title reports and legal opinions regarding fee interests in real estate, familiarity with private mortgage insurance and reinsurance;

    + A degree in Finance, Real Estate or related experience.
