The Position
Under direction, the Compliance Coordinator - RN provides medical expertise for the Division of Industrial Relations, Workers' Compensation Section. Incumbents monitor compliance and detect violations of State laws and/or regulations by medical providers, insurance carriers, Third Party Administrators (TPAs), medical billing vendors, employers, and in Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) reports; supervise lower-level Compliance/Audit Investigators; and oversee the Medical Unit in their assigned regions.
The Compliance Coordinator - Registered Nurse (RN) position, which may be based in either Carson City or Las Vegas depending on the most qualified candidate, plays a vital role within the Division of Industrial Relations, Workers' Compensation Section. This statewide leadership position oversees subordinate Medical Unit staff and provides expert medical guidance while ensuring regulatory compliance across a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including medical providers, insurers, third-party administrators, employers, and medical billing vendors. The Compliance Coordinator monitors and investigates violations of State law-particularly those pertaining to Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) reports-and administers the development, updating, and maintenance of both Treating and Rating Panels of Physicians and Chiropractic Physicians in alignment with statutory requirements. Responsibilities include verifying the completeness and accuracy of medical documentation, confirming authorized services match those billed and provided, conducting stakeholder interviews, documenting findings, recommending administrative actions such as fines, and preparing medical documentation and testimony for hearings and appeals. The role also involves revising the Medical Fee Schedule annually, training internal and external stakeholders, auditing provider compliance, and recommending disciplinary actions including warnings, suspension, or removal from provider panels. Additionally, the Compliance Coordinator organizes quarterly Quality Assurance Panel meetings, ensures timely completion of Medical Unit legislative projects, identifies errors in PPD reports and facilitates PPD Review Panel meetings, and resolves medical billing disputes through formal written determinations, among other assigned duties.***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two years of which included professional experience in workers' compensation, occupational health, or case management; OR one year of experience as a Compliance Specialist - Registered Nurse in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Travel within the state may be required.
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
