Job Summary
Job Summary:
Dr. Chen Chen’s Lab in the Department of Population Health Sciences, Division of Cancer Population Science at the University of Utah School of Medicine is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellow interested in gaining training and experience in environmental epidemiology and cancer epidemiology. The primary objectives focus on climate sensitivity hazards and cancer-related health outcomes. However, other related opportunities for research will be available.
The Fellowship will train fellows for independent academic research careers. Fellows are expected to collaborate on established projects and are encouraged to conduct independent research with an emphasis on study inception, be productive manuscript writers, and apply for their own grants.
A breadth of resources and collaborative support will enable fellows to build their own research programs. For interested candidates, there are opportunities to develop qualitative as well as quantitative and statistical expertise. Salary is competitive with excellent fringe benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences or a related discipline is required at the start of the fellowship. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.

About the Division of Cancer Population Science
The Division of Cancer Population Science, within the Department of Population Health Science, will serve as the academic home for faculty and graduate students with emphasis in population cancer research. The University of Utah houses the Huntsman Cancer Institute, an internationally renowned cancer center with outstanding clinicians and scientists. The Division will, in particular, foster the integration of cancer population sciences with clinical research and provide expertise on study design, in molecular and translational epidemiology, and in cancer prognosis, survivorship, and outcomes research. Many interactions both on the academic and research side will take place, in particular with the Departments of Surgery, Oncological Sciences, Pediatrics, the Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Internal Medicine, the Division of Public Health in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, the College of Health, College of Nursing and many more.

The successful applicant will have experiences working with electronic health records data, especially in its application in climate sensitivity hazards such as power outage due to wildfire. Experiences or publications with methods such as quasi-experimental design, case crossover design and spatial statistics are all positive factors for considerations.
